I come not to bury 60 Minutes, but to praise it
 

I don't watch it as often as I used to but last Sunday I recorded it on a whim. Some good stuff. First piece had returned serviceman from Afg and Iraq helping police and citizens in Springfield, MA get on top of out of control gang activity. I'm not always a big booster of all things military but I have to tip my hat to these guys.

Second bit was about the Africa Mercy, a hospital ship providing treatment for people in dire need of it. Some cases of severe facial deformity from tumors were shown as were a good number of people who had been blind for years from cataracts. They were dancing with joy at being able to see again.

I dunno, the old saw about 'why is the news always bad news' came to mind.

"60 minutes" is but a shadow of itself since the demise of Don Hewitt.

So are most ground breaking shows that "jumped the shark."

I was a regular viewer until the B. O., H. Clinton commercial/interview. I have not watched a minute since. What do you think CBS stands for, phonetically correct.

Oh well. Lao Tzu said that the wise man is grateful for a faint light, for what little light it gives. I liked the episode in question, I thought it was a far more useful use of electrons than anything I've seen on the FOX News channel, for starters.

I've actually watched it a few times recently (brought back memories of my parents sitting down and watching it every week), I kinda like Scott Pelley's demeanor (on air at least ;) ). Have even sat through a Evening News Broadcast or two which I haven't done in decades as I couldn't take any of them.

That's part of the reason I enjoy the CBS Sunday Morning show (I'm probably the only one under 60 watching it :P), again bringing back memories of my parents and grandfather while I watch it. An occasional tear-jerker but generally feel-good stories. I look forward to that 1.5 hours every Sunday, sitting at the table with breakfast and a coffee or two, just relaxing.

. . . and then finding out that Charles Kuralt was a real "horn dog." ;)
