Switching away from AT&T ...

is like having a vasectomy done with pliers.

This is all.

They don't even have a signal here where I live.

Oddly enough, no signal at home either. Doesn't actually matter since I have an actual old-school landline at home. I doubt that T-mo will be any better, but at least they charge $50/mo for unlimited talk/text/500 mb of data or $70/mo for unlimited all three. The latter doesn't actually exist with AT&T, and to get anything close to those rates I'd need to go prepaid rather than post-billed.

Not going with a fawking MVNO, especially one that uses Sprint's (aka the US carrier with worst network/worst customer service) network. T-mo has its own network and is majority German-owned -- it's one of the carriers that wasn't made part of the PRISM program (or at least hasn't been caught yet), which is a reason in itself to give them my money rather than AT&T or Sprint.

recent switch

When I lost my crappy company Blackberry, I went with MyFamilyMobile $40/month (plus taxes) for unlimited voice, text, and web --- 1GByte at 4G speeds; then downgraded speed after the 1G limit, I think. It's on the T-mobile network which is just fine for the urban areas; I've been without a signal for extended times when I was off in the country.

I can't say that AT&T is much better. No signal in rural VA, a lot of coastal CA between Monterrey and Santa Barbara, or on the highway between Ely, NV and Delta, UT.

Use Net 10 and you can keep your AT&T number, same AT&T service, and same phone for $45 a month unlimited talk, text, & web. Just get the Net 10 sim card, have AT&T unlock your phone, and port the number. We are saving over $150 per month on two phones.

T Mobile has been good to me in populated areas. It's supposed to roam on AT&T when I go to the boonies but it never does, just a head up. Norht of Watertown, NY and my phone is a paperweight.
