I believe one could say that Madoff did just that. If so, he did meet his citizen obligation but was locked up for his effort.

Madoff committed fraud on a massive scale and robbed people of their retirement money. What in the world does he have to do with anything said in this thread?

Wish that were true, but it isn't. Gov at all levels subsidizes education so much that there is no negative feedback system. As a result, cost of education rises faster than inflation. Same with medical care.

If we were to make it a free market, in which each individual had to pay his own freight, you can bet your bippy that the payer would make Ebenezer look like Ted Kennedy.

Yes.
Once I asked Delibus -"whats so great about America anyway". In his country and Argentina and Chile a quarter of a century ago, people doing what we do here every day.........
they would dissappear, and be tortured to death for being dissedents.

Who's law? Don't we have an obligation to ignore laws we disagree with, like that brave genius, Bradley Manning did?

Do these wonderful nordic socialist utopias allow uncontrolled immigration? Could YOU become a citizen of their country just because you wanted to? And I wonder what our prison budget would be if we could cut out all spending on illegal alien criminals. Not to mention how much more money we would have to spend on our students if we could cut out all the handouts to illegal aliens. I would be all for a "free" education if it were ONLY for my fellow countrymen, which would include LEGAL aliens who become US citizens first. Some food for thought, although I doubt you can digest it.

Well, first of all, we all need to recognize the superiority of your digestive system. It is impressive indeed. We can only try our best to keep up with its brilliance. Too bad you don't provide any facts or figures.

10fords - Check your facts, please. Most people in US prisons came here legally or were born here and are not "illegal aliens."

TSOR says that Sweden has 14.3% foreign born population:
Immigration to Sweden - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

US population is 11.8% foreign-born. Sweden actually appears to have as much or more immigration than the US.

I didn't say that all the prison population was illegal aliens. Dependeng on who you believe the percentage is 10 to 30 percent. even at the low end that is a considerable amount. Couple the cost of that with the cost of aid to illegals and you have a nice chunk of dough that could be better used on education. My other point was: do nordic countries enforce their borders or do they just let anyone who wants to come in and take advantage of their benefits?

Honus- I'm sorry, but anyone who can publicly proclaim that Nancy Pelosi is a model politician who does the right thing "for the people" with no concern about her own career, is so painfully out of touch with reality as to make any sembalance of intelligent discussion futile. Have a nice life on your planet!

Pelosi is one of the most hated people in Washington, but her haters don't seem to be able to explain why they hate her. What has she done to earn all this animosity? A friend of mine has worked on Capital Hill on the GOP side for about 25 years. She disagrees with just about every policy position Pelosi ever had and yet she gives Pelosi high marks for the way she works with people in her own party and on the other side. Pelosi was a successful Speaker because she actually believes that government has a role in society. The country will be better off if we can return her to that position. Maybe then Congress can stop being so completely dysfunctional.

Can any of you who don't like Pelosi offer anything concrete?

Their are plenty of ways to get a reasonable priced education in this country. Most people are to lazy to do it, or are fools and pay to much for a useless degree.

This is an interesting observation. I dunno if it accurate or not, but it’s interesting, all the same. Can you provide an example of a lack of negative feedback system for education?
