How can Jesse Jackson consider himself a rights leader?

So the guy that was all up in arms when Trayvon Martin was killed -- and then again when Zimmerman was found not guilty -- tweeted this when he heard about the killing of Christopher Lane:

"Praying for the family of Chris Lane. This senseless violence is frowned upon and the justice system must prevail."

The violence is indeed senseless. But the kids' conduct? Frowned upon. FROWNED upon.

Uh, sure. That's the kind of thing that might be said when some kids go out and paint graffiti and vandalize cars, not when they murder a guy at random in cold blood.

Isn't this the same guy who with his buddy Sharpton was stirring up **** at every opportunity and organizing protests about Trayvon? (And isn't he also the guy who rejected the jury's verdict and thus the justice system?)

His fetid comments about Mr. Lane's murder only confirm that he's nothing more than a hypocritical creep.

Rights leader? Hardly. The only thing he can claim to lead is a riotous mob.

Have the killers of Chris Lane been released because they acted in self-defense?

It's not as if there was a national election and Jackson won the seat to 'rights leader'. Some people agree with him. Most do not. Who cares?

Not as if Fallwell, Limbaugh or others won the seat to represent Christians or the Right but there they are.

They are loud mouths who attract attention. Not everyone believes what these idiots say.

About a year or so ago two guys in Tulsa, one of them White and the other a Native American, decided it would be fun to kill a few blacks. So they did. I think the total was five dead and a few more wounded.

They just drove around early in the morning and shot Black people at random.

The Black population of Tulsa, as well as everyone else, when nuts. There was some serious talk about burning the place to the ground.

Jessie showed up and spoke at a large rally where he implored everyone to calm down, that the killers would be caught, and that until they were everyone needed to understand that there are evil people in this world and rioting would do nothing to change this.

So there was no riot, and the killers were caught a day or so later.

I don't know really how much Jessie had to do with it, but things did calm down after he showed up and spoke.

Good story. Jesse's son appears to be a flake but Jesse frequently displays intelligence.

Like when he said this, "Politicians argue for abortion largely because they do not want to spend the necessary money to feed, clothe and educate more people... There are those who argue that the right to privacy is of higher order than the right to life. I do not share that view... That was the premise of slavery. You could not protest the existence or treatment of slaves on the plantation because that was private and therefore outside of your right to concerned."

There's some sense to that remark but I don't think that covers the abortion debate entirely. Carrying a fetus in one's womb is about as private as you can get in the realm of one person to another.

Re Jackson's imploring people to stay calm in the Tulsa incident, I sorta doubt you'd have heard a similar message from Sharpton.

If you are referring to the Reverend Jesse Jackson, please give some example of his display of intelligence. And getting people to still refer to him as the reverend while he has produced at least one single mother is not an example of intelligence.

Sounds as though your mind has been made up for some time. Did you read the story Pooka posted about JJ appearing in Tulsa? If not, take a look.

As for the single mother thing, it's not good but it's not the worst sin by a long shot. All fall short of the glory of God.

I agree that Frowned upon is a really poor choice of words. I did not know about JJ's speech helping to quell violence in Tulsa but it does not surprise me. Like many political leaders he is far from perfect as a human being but still capable of very good things. I heard him speak once at the national school board conference and he was very inspirational.

Twenty years ago it was and he spoke of how it cost $15000 to go to college per year and $30000 to incarcerate....still an excellent point but the numbers are higher for both now.

One does not have to be a perfect person to inspire others. It is just that their good works overshadow their faults, and the words they speak make sense and often go right to the root of the problem while injecting a bit of common sense.

I was in a high enough position at the oil works to get to attend some pretty swanky affairs involving Congressmen and every now and then a Senator. They all seemed like pretty normal folks, but there was one very Conservative Senator that, in private, was one of the most two-faced and disgusting individuals I have ever met. So really, you can't judge a book by its' cover.

We, we being the people in my group, were at these things in case someone had a technical question since none of the Executives would have been able to answer them. They really do say things like, "Why don't we ask the experts?", and we knew we were up.

Jessie has carved out a place for himself and I don't see anything knocking him out of it. I am sure he has a number of faults, but he has a reputation as a voice of reason among much of the population.

One of our VP's used to say, "Unless the guy has been raping Rabbi's we can do business with him." He never said this about Jessie since we never did business with him, but please rest assured that there are some very well known names out there that we used to question if they could pass the VP's test.

Ditto that. Just did not fit. He has his faults, no doubt. There is a severe shortage of philosopher kings in our world.
