Syrian rebels slaughtering three people in the countryside of Edlib
LiveLeak.com - Syrian rebels beheads bishop François Murad
warning...very graphic Is this what is condoned by the religion of Islam? This is out of control. All these beheadings and killings over what religious sect you belong to. Muslim vs Muslim, was is the sanity? |

I can't explain it, but the Koran is pretty clear on killing folks: If you kill a fellow Muslim by accident then it can be forgiven. Accidents do happen no matter how careful you are.
But if you kill a fellow Muslim by choice then there is no forgiveness. Not now; not never. I think some of the Mullas claim they can speak for Allah in this matter and give you a special sort of permission on this, but I am not sure how that works. By the way... The killing of fellow Muslims if not allowed and neither is the killing of leaders of any other religion. Ministers, Missionaries, Nuns.... They may not be Muslims, but they are religious people and the day may come when they see the error of their ways and convert to Islam. I am not a Muslim, so all I know is what I have picked up from reading the Koran. If anyone wants to jump in here and correct anything I said they will not hurt my feelings. I'm not trying to pretend I understand any of this. |

IIRC the suras concerning killing enemies are later in date than the suras emphasizing peace and preservation of life. In one sense they are only being consistent Muslims.

The koran indicates any non muslim is to be forced to convert or to be killed. There are only a very few exceptions.
Apparently not a lot of moslems read the koran. Since 2000 worldwide, there have been over 21,000 moslem terrorist attacks that have resulted in a death toll exceeding 400,000. Many of the dead are moslem, many of the dead are women, many of the dead are children, many of the dead are seniors. ALL of those categories are forbidden to wage war on in the koran but I guess a bunch of moslems worldwide never got that message.

The literacy rate is pretty low in several countries in that area. Many people there can't read anything.

And they like to keep it that way: the lesser they are educated the stronger the faith. And this is not only in the Arab world.

The Syrian president is receiving aid from Iran, a Shiite country. Assad is an Alawite, and offshoot of Shia Muslim. The Shiites and Sunnis have been murdering each other for a thousand years. Most of the folks fighting Assad are Sunni Muslims. The supporters of the Sunni are the Arab states, mostly Sunni. Some of the Sunni factions in Syria are Al Qaeda affiliates, all of whom are virulently Sunni.
Both sides are killing Christians. The Christians originally backed Assad. He has turned on them and also turned on the Syrian Jews. The Baathist Party, a pan-Arab political movement, was begun by a Christian national socialist sympathizer who thought that socialism could bridge the divide among the various religious sects. The Baathist movement got subverted by dictators who mouthed the words to gain power and then assumed absolute control. Later, these dictators reverted to tribal affiliations to consolidate power. Since the tribes are exclusively one religious sect, the Baathist dictators use the religion of their sect to consolidate power. In Iraq, Hussein was a Baathist Sunni Arab who ruled the majority Shiite Arabs and also ruled the minority ethnic Kurds who are also Sunnis. In Syria, Assad used the Alawaite/Shia connection to rule the majority Sunni population. Hope that clears it up for you. If it does, please explain it to me again as I get confused every time I think about it. |

I get it . . . and when the US Army cavalry was battling the First Nation tribes, it was because they were Christians and the others were just multi-theistic heathens?
