What credit cards are you carrying?

And how do they treat you? I'm thinking about changing things up in my wallet, and want to get others opinions.

I've heard good things from various people about Chase and Capital-One cards, and am thinking about dumping my MasterCard for one...

I do a fair amount of traveling, so I don't want a card that will get flagged when I make a purchase in Washington and California in the same day!

Oh - before anyone says AMEX, I already have that base covered.

Get the amex platinum. That is the only card I use. If someone doesnt accept amex I have my bank debit.

Platinum gets you access to the vip areas of the airports, plus their points program is pretty good.

You really dont need more than 2 cards.

None...I keep the only one I have, AMEX, locked away in a safe deposit box with other important things.

All others were paid off a few years ago after cutting them up. I have since closed all credit accounts and pay cash/check/money order/debit card. If companies refuse those terms, they don't need my business.

any of them with flyer miles are worth having.

I am not especially impressed with citi-bank mastercard, but the domestic American airlines flyer mile perk makes all the BS worth it.

American express I don't waste my time with, costs are too high, and not accepted everywhere contrary to the advertisements

as a side note, you don't want your card company to flag a purchase in Washington and California the same day? why? thats a good security precaution. If you don't want that to happen, before you leave on business, call your card company and inform them of where you expect to be, and they will notate your file and prevent flagging and suspension of services.

Every time I go overseas or across the country, I do this beforehand, and don't get flagged.

I carry two everyday.

Chase Sapphire Preferred- my main card. Gets lots of comments cause its metal and heavy. It also scratches easy.

Chase freedom- For all the category spending to get 5%

These two chase cards combine points so I can use them in conjunction to get the max points.

I dont even carry a debit any more

Capital ONe Visa--for the air miles. We like to travel and have taken a number of free trips with the air miles. Redemption is a cinch. Book your airline/rental tickets however you want and then call Capital ONe and ask them to take the charge off your bill and redeem some miles.

Amex for Costco and gas. Never any issues. Had two warranty issues and amex took care of it.

Citi plt advantage card for miles.

Discover. Had them for over20 years. Price club only took it so I got it. Use it every now and then to keepnit active.

Never had any issues with any of the cards.

I never use debt or cash.

I keep a few -BofA, ATT, Macy's - in the drawer at home. I walk around with a US Bank Harley Davidson card which has me & the scooter pasted on it. That and a debit card from BofA.

Don't overlook the positive effect a few extra cards can have on your credit score. I carry no balances, but credit availability does factor into your FICO score. Coincidentally, when I leased my 2012 CTS, it was through US Bank leasing. Salesman told me it was the fastest credit approval he'd seen in a long time.

From Experian:
Credit Score: Check yours online and learn what affects it at Experian

15% of your credit score is based on the age of your accounts
Having a lengthy credit history shows lenders you have an established record of managing your debt. Closing older accounts, such as credit cards could negatively impact your credit score. Experian retains closed accounts with no negative information associated with them for 10 years from the date they are reported closed. As a result, positive credit information remains on your credit report longer than most negative information, such as late payments.

14% of your credit score is based on the types of accounts you have
There are four basic types of credit: Real Estate Loans, Installment Loans, Credit Cards, and Retail Cards. Having a good mixture of credit types along with high quality accounts, such as a mortgage loan, shows lenders you can manage your credit responsibly.

I like my Discover card, their customer service is amazing. I keep a Visa as backup since not everyone takes Discover.

I must be a weirdo, because I have no credit cards.
Maybe it's because I'm a Dave Ramsey fan?

I don't care about frequent flyer miles because I haven't been on a plane since 2003 and never plan to fly again. (It's part of my "deal with as few morons as possible in my life" goal,,,which means avoiding anyone who works in airport security.)

I do have a debit card and also a debit card for my biz.

Just applied for a Chase Sapphire Preferred to replace my old Sikorsky Visa which is clunky to use and they gave me one good to $30k.

The sign up bonus is really good, now this will be my primary card and the Discover will be my number two, with the Sikorsky getting the boot. I don't need or want more than two CC's.

Problem with Sikorsky is like every credit union they are stuck in the 80's. I can't do much online, and even checking for activity is a PITA. Also to pay the card I actually physically have to go to a branch with cash, which is a waste of time.

I was going to recommend the penfed visa cash rewards card that gives you an automatic 5% cash rebate on all gas and diesel. Checking their website, looks like they are cutting the rebate to 3% next month.

Must be real tough for those poor bankers. I feel real sorry for the f'n baaaastards that charge 18% interest on money they get for basically nothing. Thank you so much for letting me rot behind my desk working instead of my lazy money doing the lifting for the last 2 years.
