Costa Concordia rises....

....a bit. Looks like they've brought her up about 35-45 degrees from the way she was lying in the water. What an undertaking!

I read (?) that they were delayed by an unexpected rainstorm and that the operation will be 24/7 until it is completed.

....or.......not.

Looks like she's almost upright in the water now. Amazing. It's 4 a.m. there. We ought to have a good view in a couple hours.

I wonder where it'll be scrapped? There's no chance of it returning to service.

Most ships like that get scrapped in Bangladesh don't they? Run them up on the beach at high tide and then have at it.

I wouldn't be surprised to see it refurbed and returned to service under another name. Who is going to know?

I would think that a year and a half under water and the hull damage (according to the salvager it was collapsing on its self) and all the structral work done to move the ship that refurbishing the ship would be out of the question..

My understanding is that it will be towed away next year and scrapped. Too late in the season to move it.

The VIN number will be reported and SHIPFAX will show a major damage claim and an "unrepairable" notation with a Salvage Title.
