Looks beautiful, but 17K? Is that realistic?

For that price it should have a fully rebuilt hydropenumatic suspension, SRS, ortho seats, and the 4 person seating option, and 15" budnts or other harder to find wheels. That car doesn't have any of those options.

Could be original miles, IMHO. Its a rich man's car. A man or woman who is likely to have five or six cars and not drive that much. It is a simple car to maintain compared to the fiendishly complicated S class that follows. Only real drawback is fuel comsumption...and with a euro motor it will take premium.

I'd be interested though if the price is a misprint with one too many zeros.

Meh. I assume that the bumpers and plastic cladding were painted to match the body, which I don't like on this model, and the circa-1996 chrome-plated bundts have to go.

It was painted at least the plastic was.

For that kind of money it better be perfect and be a survivor. Paint and aftermarket wheels are a no no.

$6k-$7k car IMHO.

Way overpriced. Ebay might fetch $10k in a broad market, but on CL there's no way he's going to get more than $7-8k.

If you can get a pristine 560sel for under $4k, I can't imagine why anyone would want this, unless they must have the euro version.

It's nice all right but the plastic cladding has been color matched to the car which I also dislike on the pre facelift 126. Actually I dislike it on any 126 but that's another matter. I agree its probably some rich folks seldom e driven car but 17? Too much in my opinion as well.

I think this is a fair price, there are plenty of 560's but 500's are rare around here and specially in this condition. Will they get that kinda money for it, only if they are patient. Is Craigslist the right place, I doubt it. And I like the solid color, makes them even sleeker. If I had a W126 that would be the first thing I would do.

Meh I don't think an early W126 is worth a premium over a later one. Mercedes did improve them after the facelift.

IMHO a 1990-91 is the most desirable with all the updates.

Pre 85 cars had so so motors, crap sound systems, so so interiors, and lacked a bunch of nice features like a tilting sunroof.

Having owned both, post facelift is better.

Well, the text says:

Fair Price For such A Rare Car. $17,000.
This Car is Now For Sale And I will Consider A Reasonable Offer!!

The pictures depict a very original euro Gen I (1981-85) probably rare euro sedan, that got a conversion to Fed. specs WITHOUT losing its euro headlights, headlight wipers and motors and bumpers.

Not even the euro books and records. If the dash cluster was not changed, likely the mileage is in kms, not miles. But if it is a dash, with US markings, then maybe the car got clocked at the time of conversion to depict lower miles. I can't read the dials, so who knows.

It seems to have survived the federalization process virtually untouched, which is pretty rare, in this country. It is practically a German spec car, so it'd look and perform lots better than a 1985 US spec 500SEL. Probably has no metal door beams, or bumper reinforcements like the US DOT demanded along with the ugly park bench bumpers and awful US headlights they asked.

I rather like it, though, and remember also, that even though it is the last year before the major upgrade the next year to the 560, a 500 euro engine is just about equal to the US spec 560 engine that had 238 hp.

If you are looking for a good gen I euro survivor, and the color does not make you vomit, I'd make a reasonable offer, the guy seems to want "all the money" and knows it, by showing some willingness to take a lower offer.

Just my thoughts.

It's a U.S. spec speedo with miles on the outside and km/hr on the inside. Good call on the possible odometer fraud.

There isn't a W126 in the world that I would pay $17,000 for. This one is nice, but I still don't see it going for more than six at the most, based on 126 prices I've seen in my area.
