Benz Withdrawls

So I've bee driving the MINI for almost 2 months now and in starting to have Withdrawls. It's fun to drive, it's fast, and corners like a go kart. But it's just missing something like my w124 has.

So I think after I save up a bit more for a ring( yea yeah yeah yeah). I'm going to look for a cream puff w124 300D wagon or maybe an E300D. I could also be tempted into a 190D.

My sister has been driving my 300D while I try and figure out why her Malibus transmission is acting up.

Save for a Ring? My wife capped our $$ allotment for rings at $300 each.

When it comes to relatives and cars I tell them if its MB I'll fix it, if its German I'll try, and if its not, I'll do its oil change and thats all.

Our TDI, despite its shortcomings, still has a solid/teutonic ride and feel, so it doesn't cause a bad MB withdrawl. However, it is too small and much more cramped than any W201/W123/W124/W126 by far. And way smaller than a W210. I'm planning on trading it for a ML Cdi next year if I can find one....or a W210 wagon.

It sometimes is funny that they say - you can repair a MB but not a chevy.

btw - my W124 with new ball joints, new tie rods, new alignment, bilstein shocks and new tires had a feel like no other car, it actually was twice as smooth on highway speed than in city speed. The design is simple but the entirety of package is what made it so famous.

my W210 is a leap ahead surely, but has a more "remote" feel.

if she loves you, a charms blow pop ring should be sufficient to get her to sign on the dotted line. Later on you can give her an overpriced chip of glass.

As far as wedding bands, I paid 20 bucks for a pair of stainless steel bands, his and hers. Harder than gold, spotless, lasts longer, cheaper, and dishwasher safe.

Eh, would have to be some sort of limited production or special edition model to get me back into an old 'Benz.

Something like a W124 E500E, S124 with an AMG heart, 6.3 or 6.9, etc.

I had withdrawls, but was able to get over them after going over associated costs, old car issues, weak AC, etc.

Thinking if I get back into another Benz at this point - it's going to be a GL, CLS or CLA.

My (now) wife

asked about a ring before we got married. I told her that I could indeed buy a ring OR we could take a month off and get married on a Greek island (Crete). I couldn't afford both. She chose the Greek trip. Good thing too. If she made the other choice, I may have re-thought the whole thing.

You're too young for an old fart's car -- an E300 D. You will find it slow and it will try your patience.

Get a W124 with a V-8. Maybe a 500E. Make me hate you.

Buy your rings at the pawn store and get the box at Kay's Jewelers.

I can and have fixed other vehicles....chevy cavaliers, buick century, dodge caravan, toyota rav4....Chevy Blazer....none of them were pleasant to work on...the easiest were the rav4 and '93 buick. I'll stick with MB's....I do have a VW but don't plan to keep it long enough to need to work on it.

$300 for rings?? Pshhh...I grabbed a piece of scrap titanium at work one day, spent 2 lunch periods and a few breaks of work, and machined our wedding bands.

The engagement ring, OTOH...Pink diamond in a Claddaugh setting. The diamond came from a ring I found at the the local pawn shop. I used that gold, as well as the gold from a ring my mother gave me, and had the ring made to my specs. Total cost on the engagement ring...$400.

I have no advice about the car...just saw a chance to brag about making our wedding bands.
