Peter Egan retiring from his column

I just read this month's Egan in Road and Track and he announced at the end he will stop writing the column but still do features from time to time. I can relate but will really miss his work.

We are within a few months of the same age and have owned many of the same cars so naturally I feel like he is a good friend. Of course to him I am one of many fans he knows nothing about.

I wish he would write about his Vietnam experience.

Cheers Peter!

I hope Egan is retiring and is not being forced out after the make over R&T just went through.

I know everyone must change with the times, but I do miss the first person writing style of Manny and even the Bonds. With Egan gone... Well, I know I'm old, but I am beginning to feel less like someone who is old and more like someone who is watching everyone else die off around me.

I wonder if R&T comes in a large type edition?

I hope he's not sick.

Awww... he's my favorite columnist. I don't really get into racing -- don't know much about it at all, in fact -- and he is just about the only writer who could get me into a story about racing :).

I am only able to read the title of the thread, but I do know about Peter Egan.

Road and Track has moved their operation to Michigan, and I suppose he doesn't want to go there at his stage of life.

I went to the Spanish Grand Prix in 1971. A few years back he wrote about going there himself that year. I sort of felt a connection.

He has written a great column for many years. The magazine is rapidly changing, so I suppose his scaling back is to be expected.

Egan moved to Minnesota quite a while ago, so I'd not expect the weather make a difference.....:)

I'm afraid I've just lost the only reason I still subscribe to Rodent Track.

I discontinued my R&T subscription this year, after the conversion from a magazine to a 'zine, like so many other car monthlys. I really didn't have an interest on what Bob Lutz thinks . . . I really missed the P.S. humor page.

Is the Zine the splashy graphics which make it impossible to tell articles from ads?

Actually Peter lives near Madison Wi. Not far from Elkhart Lake too.

Maybe he will continue to compile old columns in new books.

I have a copy of "Peter Egan On the Road" staring at me right now. I'd love to do roadtrips like he wrote about.

Yeah, he carved out a life for himself that car guys envy.

I love Peter Egan's writings. Gonna miss him. I wonder if he ceased writing his motorcycle column?

Well,

I gave up on them about 20 years ago. I loved them when they first came out back in 63 or 64. the audacious GTO/GTO comparison sucked me in. Of course now it is known that the Pontiac had a 421 engine in it for that test but back in the day it was pretty exciting!
