I had to think about it for a second. Of course it's good for the wealthy to donate to charitable causes and many do, but it is MORE important for them to start and grow businesses, so as to provide more jobs, so that there are more people who do not NEED charity.

And that is usually what happens unless it is old money. And what I mean by old money, is the rich that inherited their wealth as compared to the rich that earned theirs. The rich that inherited their wealth want higher taxes because it does not effect them as much, no new earned income with our tax structure.

That's well said. I agree with this!

The practical reality unfortunately is very different. Starting with the fact that the lobbying system has turned this country into a plutocracy. I think someone's sig. line, (maybe "strelnik"?) says:

"Invest in America, buy a Congressman".

The problem is that the current (longtime) trend in business creation is for a very wealthy person/people to create a business where they can pay people minimal wages for the greatest return to their own pocket possible. Thus perpetuating the top 1% and further eroding the middle class. Most wealthy people are not interested in giving back or paying fair wages, they want as much for themselves as they can get. That is what is wrong with society. When the CEO of a company makes more per hour than their average worker makes in a year, something is wrong. Much like all things, it will carry on to collapse.

How about all of the above?

I'm not wealthy, but I try to give what I can, work hard so the company I work for grows and hires more people, and seem to always pay more taxes (certainly more % than many wealthy people do).

I guess I need to know if this poll is asking what the wealthy currently do or what we would like them to do.

Option D: People work towards being wealthy, instead of whining about how someone is so much richer.
Get off your ass and quit crying. I face pain levels that would keep most people in bed to do a very physical job, every single day. It's not fun, it's life.

No one got wealthy by just doing physical labor. You get wealthy by letting outers do physical labor for you.

Moving in the direction of a goal is "work".
Like working on a degree that allows you to direct others to do the physical stuff for you. I am doing the physical stuff until I have the opportunity to go back to school. Until then, I work to support my family and look forward to improving on that.

I'll never understand what circuit is crossed in the average republican's brain where they will argue that CEO's/executives in this country making hundreds of times the income of the average worker at their respective business makes is "normal" or "ok". What exactly do they do in their job that warrants this level of income? Generally they do far LESS work than those paid massively less. Remember what happens when you repress the little guys for too long, you end up with a very small elite rich class, and an extremely large poor class, and that leads to revolt and uprisings.

The state of morals/business ethics in this country has been on a downward slope that shows no signs of slowing. Greed is rampant.

I'm not a Republican, but I AM a conservative. I don't feel that way at all. The CEO's are INDEED overpaid, although it is a free country, and private business is supposed to be free to do what they see fit, whether I think it's right or not.

There are PLENTY of left wing, democrat CEO's that are doing the very same thing, so it's not a party thing and it is not the biggest problem the country is facing.

If the CEO of the past ten years at a company had a average of 2% per year of market share growth and overall profits and then another CEO comes in and over five years has a track record of 10% growth and overall profits ... who is more valuable? Obviously the second CEO. Now if the difference between the two translates into $500 million more for the company what are other companies looking to increase their bottom line going to do? Do you think the board of directors at other companies are going to say- "Nah- we won't pay this guy $20 million a year" and then pay a different (lower performing) CEO $2 million a year and see no growth and no increase in profits? If you spend $20 to get $500 is that worth it? Would you refuse to spend $20 so that you get $500 in return?

Now obviously not every CEO does this great performance, but those that do not are going to get fired.
