Ecodiesel you say?

Now if I can buy it with a regular cab, 8' bed, and no fancy gizmos. Maybe I'll be interested.

catmandoo62 09-24-2013 09:01 AM

rotary shifter!!!why not just go back to the old push button.and if this vm is anything like the jeep engine forget it.

spdrun 09-24-2013 09:13 AM

Why not go back to a lever with an "double H" pattern, and the 3rd pedal which shows that "this truck is not for kathoeys."

Demand. I wonder if it's even an option.

Heck, I had to special order a 2WD 3/4 ton because no dealers in the Northeast stock anything that isn't 4WD. Which seems ridiculous to me, especially in southern New England and NYS.

I must have wax in my ears. What did you say?

Interesting concept. Putting a wop diesel in an American truck. Disable the engine if you run out of piss and a gear shifter that's just a lawsuit waiting to happen. I wonder how long before that is changed out for a regular one.

As is usually the case, the article overlooks the resale value when calculating the payback time, which will be significant if it turns out to be a good platform. The $5900 Cummins option in my 2003 Dodge returns $6200 at resale according to KBB.com. The statement that it is much more refined and quiet than the Cummins in the HD is also bogus- new engines are so quiet you don't even know they're running.

I test-drove a Ford F-250 with the powerstroke diesel. Compared to the 6.0 of ten years ago, this thing idled like a V8 Cadillac.

How many Olds diesel owners understood this?

At the current moment it would take 2 decades to pay back for opting for the diesel model over the gas v6 ,,,,,,, but that is a static situation and im sure I know which direction that parade is headed.

Yep, trying to find a lightly optioned 1500 with a regular cab, 2wd, and an 8ft bed is impossible. Either loaded to the hilt or stripped WT.

about 90 percent of the buyers here in iowa were farmers that just wanted em to run fuel out of their barrel on the farm with no tax.they could care less if it took a dump, they were gonna drive it into the ground anyway.

The 5.7 diesels were really pretty good overall except for the quality thingie. Comfortable and full sized cars would get 30 mpg highway. MY uncle bought an early one new and at 12K had a broken crank. (WTF?)

Too bad too because GM knew how to build a quality diesel, they just chose not to.

Raffaelli 09-25-2013 07:54 AM

Only 4mpg better, slower, expensive, and an Italian power train.

Tough sell.
