Thinking about buying an E28 BMW...

A friend has one for sale pretty - and isn't asking all that much for it...

I love how they look, and have been playing with the idea of building something old and funky (and this fits the bill)!

Anyone have one here? I am trying to get more info, but they seem to be pretty evenly matched to the W124, but have EFI instead of CIS.

Major question,,,and auto or stick?

I just bought an e34 (89 535i automatic) as a "family" car. Love the M30 engine. I would like one or an e34.

Go for it.

Had an '88 535i for several years. The E28 is a great car, but unless the prospect has been maintained, it's gonna nickel and dime you like crazy. They are obviously getting old and everything plastic is pretty crispy now.

Look for rust by the license plate lights, and try the brakes from highway speeds. If there is a shimmy while braking like this, you are looking at all new control arms, probably shocks also. An auto will be no fun. Only go for a manual IMHO.

That's me on the e34. It's a $400 (or less if you like Chinese parts) DIY problem . A front end rebuild on one of these is not as involved as on a contemporaneous MB.

A guy I work with has one and has been quite happy with it (except that his wife always wants to drive it, leaving him in a Toyota). For that price, it's hard to go wrong.

However, what about the GT3 you've been wanting?
