computer monitor question
 

my wife's laptop has a screen that is too small (too low, etc.)

i want to give her a big monitor that whe can attach to the laptop. is this possible to do?

i looked at an old flatscreen lcd monitor and i cannot see where the blue trapezoidal shaped connector plugs into the laptop. maybe i need a new modern monitor?

Most notebook computers have what is called a VGA or DB-15 video connector. This connector used with the majority of video displays. There are a variety of newer connectors found on a lot of notebooks that are called DVI connectors. There are a few forms of the DVI connector.

There are adapters that will convert a DVI pinout to a VGA pinout and vice-versa.

Were it me, I’d take the notebook computer to your nearby Staples or Best Buy, Costco, or whoever sells monitors stuff and try some. The real important detail is that the video adapter on the notebook has to get along with the needs of the monitor. Most do but not all. If you can find the specifications of the video adapter on the notebook, bring that with you. You can often find the specs by looking at the properties for the video adapter.

Just acquired my first modern computer - an Acer 11.5" netbook - and it has the 15-pin VGA connector, as well as an HDMI socket, which I've used to hookup to my 32" LCD TV.
I did need to learn the key combination (ctrl & F4) to get the Acer to display on the TV. Also change the resolution setting to enlarge print & type and make it more easily readable from across the room. FWIW, this also enlarges the print & type on the Acer's 11.5" screen.

VGA to HDMI converter
 

I set up a system for a friend so she could watch Movies, Videos and TV from her home country on her laptop and display them on a 37" Panasonic LED TV.

I went to Sewell Direct and got a VGA to HDMI converter that has no signal loss and does a great job of cleaniong up the signal and converting to HDMI.


Google Sewell Direct and see if what they have will do what you want.

you need to find a DB15, or DVI (or HDMI) port on the laptop first - look again ?

...Or... post up its model number/serial numbers (we might need more than "Dell H10" if you can find the sticker with small writing) - every laptop I've seen in the last 5 years has had a VGA port or an adapter of some flavor. But if you are older than that, or a very thin model...they might not have included such capability.
can you post the model number or any details about the laptop itself ?

I've never ran into a monitor that refuses to work with a given laptop, IME you just play with the resolution (in windows) until it works and looks good.
