You should. It's an interesting one from all points of view.

So, that report is true and the one I heard is false?
The one you heard is after one day of "work". This to dismantle a stockpile decades in the making and widely dispersed across a country embroiled in a civil war with the paramaters of the search constrained by the Assad regime and it's supposed voluntary co-operation with the UN.

Of course they are, I was being sarcastic. It's in Assad's best interest to keep his stockpiles while pretending to aid the UN in destroying them. He gains nothing by backing down and actually getting rid of them. Putin gets to increase his stature with a glorious diplomatic farce and while the world is obsessed by UN teams looking for gas bombs Assad gets to continue slaughtering his was thru the war, under the protection of Putin and the UN and with the US impotent.

Maybe so. If so, then it is obviously Obama's fault.
Correct.

Support that should have verified whether they should or not. So, explain this trust thing to me. You didn't do your due diligence then and yet you expect me to trust you now? This is but one incident. The fact that they cannot balance a checkbook tells me that while the Rs are doing this for their own skin, perhaps this IS something we need to realize before we give them any more responsibility. My usual plan is to fire incompetence and try replace it. When I cannot, I don't give them more responsibility. So maybe, this shutdown is a good thing.

How so? It isn't our concern unless we have an ax to grind.

use of chemical weapons is an axe to grind for the US.

We signed the 1928 Geneva Protocol regarding chemical weapons, and we did that with the reservation that any nation that used poison gas or other chemical weapons would in turn have them used against them as well, which meant we stockpiled the weapons at the time.

We also more recently signed the 1997 CWC (Chemical weapons convention) international treaty on prohibition and destruction on chemical weapons.

For nearly a century is has been US foreign policy to first hold for retaliation, and then to destroy and make sure others destroy chemical weapons.

And? Is it somehow going to pad our bottom line or affect someone or something we need?

Rep. Barton on debt limit: Bills only need to be ‘paid partially’ like ‘my household budget’ | The Raw Story

See, not all Republicans pay all their bills on time.

Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX) on Monday said that he would fight against raising the nation’s debt ceiling and had a simple plan to avoid default, which involved not paying “every bill the day it comes in.”

“We have in my household budget some bills that have to be paid and some bills that only paid partially,’ Barton explained.
How did you come up with that? I pay my credit card bill minimum payment and it is not paid in full but not in "past due" status, is it? Most of my bills have a "due date" so if I pay by the due date, it is still on time.

If anything, this is a kick the can down the road. While he might have said it, it has, is and will be done regardless. Why? Because we allow them to use cash accounting instead of accrual basis accounting. This way, they prepare the budget on the 1st and look flush with cash and can spend. Pay the bills on the end of the month and let the month take care of itself.

This is the attitude we are running that I don't trust. We can't work on that basis but we allow it. Hence the issues we have today. And we are to trust them with more responsibility? We look at the rosy projections and say "I want and I can have" but we don't want to look at the ugly truth.
