GOV shutdown proof we don't need 50% or more of the excess bureaucracy

In reviewing the shutdown, many have determined the "US" government is bloated beyond any possible justification.

IMO a forced reduction, beginning with all (allow only two staff per) senate - congressional office, and going down to the lowest GOV employee would be a good start on house cleaning..

I suggest excluding military and border patrol personnel.

Our nation would be better if the "US" Senate and Congress closed nine months per year.

Why preferential treatment for these two groups? Is it because they are so efficient and budget conscious so that their exemption is a non-topic?

I have a few groups I want exempt as well. Who decides who gets exempt and who does not?

Great idea Roy. Wish we could make it happen.

Why?

Here's a idea:
(1) Legalize most soft drugs, so as to reduce smuggling across the border
(2) Establish functional guest-worker programs for blue-collar workers from Latin America
(3) Think with our brains rather than with our b@lls when going into wars abroad that shouldn't concern us.

Military and law-enforcement are two of the MOST parasitic sectors of government.

Hmmm... why is it that a liberals number one solution to all the US problems is to legalize their drugs?

Another budget saving method . . . we already spent the money for nuclear weapon systems . . . Let's Drop the Big One and see what happens . . .

We already have a precedent for that, so it's inevitable.

Because the precedent of the repeal of Prohibition is so compelling.

I'm more middle-of-the-road. But if we're spending a lot of money fighting a product that's about as dangerous as alcohol, you'd think that Conservatives would be all over preventing wasteful gov't spending

Why do conservatives think making things illegal is the number one solution to solving all the problems of the US? After all, prohibition worked so will the first time .... lets be idiots and do it again. Why would it be any different.

Why don't you start by calling your favorite Tea Party knuckle-dragging Congressman and tell him to trim his staff?

Your alcohol is legalized. Strange you never complain about that.

whunter,

What's the factual basis for the title of this thread? The evidence from recent years and from the shutdown leads me to the opposite conclusion. For example, is it OK with you that the officers who risked their lives yesterday stopping the woman who went berserk in her car in DC are going without paychecks right now?

Check out this list: 48 Ways a Government Shutdown Will Screw You Over | Mother Jones

You're OK with all that? I'm not. In fact our federal government has been penny wise and pound foolish for years. We need more spending, not less. The austerity fad that isn't really a fad anymore is holding back our economy.
