Or is it because each reporter has their own style of "shorthand"?

Let's face it; the english language itself is complex and complicated. IMHO, any type of short hand is just what it says; compacting a sentence or paragraph in the pursuit of speed or as they call it, 'speed writing'. And, one stenographer's style is going to be different than another.

I have witnessed court proceedings change for the better merely because a court reporter was present. When an official record is being made, most people want to keep their Ps and Qs straight.

Are these disorders covered in Obamacare, or are they just considered workplace violence?

If you feel you may be suffering, you may need to call the TCES (toxic congress exposure syndrome) hotline to initiate a workmen's comp claim. Dial 1-800-I've-been-screwed-over-bad and a claims agent will assist you.

Dial 1-800-FED-HEAD and Mr. B.S. (Ben-Shalom) Bernanke will print some money for you. No need to sue.

And, really, what kind of cruel joke was it to give a child those first initals?

As newer courtrooms get built, more of them are installing video, with camera switching based on proximity to microphones. The video is to hdvr and a copy of the proceedings can be burned to disc. This makes getting "dailies" of testimony faster to view, however does complicate next day cross examination, since you need to provide the opposing counsel with a copy of the portions you're challenging, with a time code stamp, so they can follow along; or you have to get a court reporter to transcribe it.

The use of personal shortcuts, abbreviations and codes does provide the court reporter with a certain about of income protection.

Actually I bet they can take the words down and not even think about them unless there is one they cannot understand.

Reporters have all the best stories about courtroom antics and the goings on between attorneys, judges and witnesses. Some gossip, but I find that for the most part they are fairly discrete, but when they have a story to tell, it's usually a doozy.

House member Bachmann has made several statement alluding to the end of the world and how this debt situation was a harbinger of that event. She professed that this was a good thing and that those who were bringing about the downfall of the world's economic system were doing the work of the Lord.

But the world did not end and the event did not take place.

Perhaps this poor woman was distraught over this? If she was mentally invested in this event and was then watching it vanish before her very eyes perhaps she was trying to give the House members one more chance to facilitate the Second Coming?
