Screw politics, lets talk boats...

Used 2005 Tiara 3200 Open, Southold, Ny - 11971 - BoatTrader.com

So close, just out of reach...lets see how next year goes.

IMHO that is the perfect boat, right size and right motors. Screw gas 454's.

No one can afford to run gas boats so they are just dock queens. I'd run 125-200 hours a year on those Cummins and they would be happy with it until at least 8k hours. Cummins and Yanmar are the best marine diesels you can get, they don't break like CAT's.

I put about 150 hours this year on my boat, I want to go bigger so I can overnight and use it more. I did 1 block Island trip, 6 Northport, 8-10 Port Jeff, and up the CT river twice this year. Next year we're planning on doing that plus a NY City trip and at least 3 Block Island trips, I'm also planning on doing Northport at least every other Friday from May-August. I want something that is fast and efficient with a cabin so I can do more Block Island trips and maybe a Hudson or run up the coast for a few weeks to Maine.

That'd be a sweet rig, C. Hope you can sell a few more houses next year!

Block Island is one of my favorite places. I grew up on Payne's dock. 2 weeks and almost every other weekend over the summer, from around 10yo through college. You got to know all of the kids at Payne's, B.I. Boat Basin and Champlain's and we'd all pick up where we left off the last trip or year. I also grew up in Ballard's, but Ballard's is a lot more fun once you reach legal drinking age!

I'm hoping to get my boat in the water this year for the first time in 4 years. Ease the wife and kids back into it, get them to the point of usefulness and buy a bigger boat to keep in down river so we can get to Block Island, Montauk, Napatree Beach, Hamburg Cove in a reasonable amount of time for some weekend/long-weekend trips and work up to longer ones..

Now I understand why, as kids, we were never allowed to participate in summer programs/sports. It was boating season. When we were old enough to stay home by ourselves we were given the option, but by then we were already trained and looking forward to the trips! I missed my opportunity to implement that policy.

Definitely get up to Maine. Join the Maine Island Trail Association. We sailed up there this summer and loved it. First time sailing on tidal waters for me. Learned a lot.

I dont think this size boat really needs more than a pair of the 3.3 cummins. If someone needs to outrun someone else----Theres different kinds of boats better suited.

Left??? Port!!!
Port will be served on the promenade deck shortly after dinner.

So on a boat, they would be port leaning liberals and starboard nut jobs....

Yes!

No surprise I prefer running center consoles!

If you want to make time you need big motors. I'm not interested in a boat that cannot cruise 20-25 knots. Smaller 4 cylinder Cummins rattle and you would be stuck running maybe 15...so a trawler.

BI is 70 miles away from my dock which I can do in three hours. Something like that Tiara 3200 I could probably cut that down to around 2 1/2.

One guy I know with a big center console can do it in a bit over an hour if its calm...30ft Salt Shaker with triple Honda outboards...WOT at the end of the harbor just after sunrise when it was like glass...just kissing 60mph...a bit over an hour to BI!
