If you had to spend as much time listening to those @$$holes bloviate as she did, you'd go bonkers too!

A court reporter doesn't merely listen to words spoken, they literally write every word spoken into a court reporting machine. think about it for a moment; when someone tells you to 'write down what I am about to say' and you comply, you are litierally POUNDING their indelible thoughts into your own brain!! The mind is a funny thing; once you physically take out ink and paper and WRITE it down, you will never forget it.

She most likely suffers from TCES (Toxic Congress Exposure Syndrome) and suffered a nervous breakdown. After all, we are talking about eight hour days both listening to and writing down the yammerings of LAWYERS (liars?). I would challenge anyone here to sit in their chambers and listen to everything they say and WRITE it all down DAY after insanity filled boring DAY after boring, insane, whacked out, nut case filled DAY.

Geez, she deserves a sympathy card at the very least.....

I spent 3 days with lawyer doing a deposition.

This lady needs more than a "Thank You" card - she needs the MOH...

Well put. And thanks for putting a name on a condition that afflicts me also: TCES.

Court reporters . . a soon to be extinct profession, victims of technology. Most people don't realize that court reporters can't accurately transcribe the work of another reporter unless they have access to the shortcut tables that each report creates . . . the transcript is not a standardized form of shorthand. Each reporter has their own abbreviation table, sometime on their laptop for "real time" transcription, but often it's just in their head.

Three days is more than enough time to make anyone want to puke up their guts. Time to "detox" from all of their "toxicity". Imagine listening to their mouths run over eight hours a day, five days a week, year after toxic filled year after toxic filled year.

She deserves hazard AND disability pay.....she may never recover and be able to work again!

How soon do you think it is until voice-to-text (like Dragon for us uninitiated) is ready to replace them? I've used "consumer" level programs a couple times that have been pretty good but that's with just me in the room with the door closed or in a car with Bluetooth. I suppose the background din (I'm being kind) could be problematic (tie into the microphone system maybe?) and deciding which voices to ignore (especially if tied into the microphone system) could be as well.

Is this done to protect each individual reporter's work product? A type of copyright, per se?
