Join the reserves as a pilot, then you can actually pilot one!

I think it's against flight regulations to have glasses thicker than the glass in the cockpit no?

Why don't you get in line for tickets to visit space? The next space tourist is due to launch some time soon in Russia... stay up in space for 3 minutes and back to eart.

There are businesses that I have heard of (I could be more specific if you want) who give rides in WWII warbirds if that does anything for you. Never heard of any using jet powered fighters. If there are, I'm sure they would be older, such as the previously mentioned MIG's. Maybe even an F86, unsure if there are any 2-seat F86's flying. There is a privately (well, non-gov't) owned F104 Starfighter flying, that would be a hoot, don't know if it's a 2-seater, I'm sure they were 1-seaters when the gov't flew them.
A ride in a current, active fighter is probably beyond the reach of most of us, especially in the post-Sept. 11 state of readiness that the armed forces are in, whether you "know someone" or not. Myself, I'd much rather try a hop in a B52 than a fighter ANY day! Let me know if you want some names for Warbird flights, seems like most of them are down in Florida. There's one place that sells rides in a TF-51, the 2 seat, dual control version of the P51. Even a short hop is expensive though, over a $1000 I want to say, could be wrong. Gilly

While watching either the Travel Channel or TLC they covered just such a topic. I think the current rate over in Russia is $10k for a 45 minute ride in a Mig 25(?), I'm not quite certain.
Plenty of stunts, speed, and a ceiling of 50,000 feet as well. |

Is the TF-51 the Mustang with twin booms that looks kinda like a P-38 Lightning?
I'd be so happy if I could fly in an F-4 Phantom.

No, thats the F-82 Twin Mustang you're thinking of. I heard one of those is under restoration, probably by the CAF (or whatever the CAF is called now, I guess Confederate Aif Force isn't socially acceptable anymore and they changed they're name).
The TF-51 is a P-51 trainer version with dual controls (slightly longer cockpit area and canopy), which would be neat because once you're in the air, the pilot will probably let you fly it a bit. You could probably also find someone selling rides in P-51's that have the small jumpseat behind the pilot, but there wouldn't be any controls. I think the outfit with the TF-51 is called Stallion-51, and is based in Kissimee (sp?), FL. Boy, I don't know if the US is even flying the F4 any longer, Maybe possibly a recon unit is still flying the RF4, I know it wasn't that long ago they were STILL flying the RF-101 Voodoo for recon. From the rumors I've heard, jets (fighters) like the F-86, F100, and F104 may be about the end of the line for what a non-gov't entity can be expected to keep flying, after that, they just get too complex, to many specialist required to keep it operational. Still, I wonder, if I went out to Davis-Monthan, would they sell me a B52? (awwww, come on, Dear! It doesn't take up THAT much room! Can't I buy one?):p

Howdy Kuan,
If I can have sucsessful laser eye surgery you can too I went from 20/800-20/1000 to 20/20- 20/20 On antoher note one of the pilots at work is an aerobatic pilot. He might be willing to give you a ride if you can't find a jet. Even if you find a jet ride you might want to go for a spin with him

Kuan you could always just stroll up to Oshkosh, WI in July for the EAA's AirVenture air show. Not sure if someone provides Jet Rides but your odds are probably better than most places.

I think the CANG is still putting a few F-4's up, I know they were flying them steady in the 80's early 90's - that's what Dean Martin Jr. augered into the side of San Gorgonio. There is also a company out of Riverside or Chino (not sure which) that sells dog fights. The have some refitted military trainers (prop jobs), equipped with lasers and for a modest fee (less than 1K if I remember) you go out and fight. Once off the ground you are in control with the pilot riding back seat - the pilot takes off, lands and grabs the stick if you lose it, other than that you are in control. That is supposed to be a real kick in the gas.
