Dish Hopper question
Just switched from Direct TV to Dish. So far so good. Hopper seems pretty neat.
I recall hearing/reading that I have the ability to look back up to 48 hours for missed programs. Been looking through the manuals and on line to no avail. Anyone know how to do this? I was told the system needs to do one more update tonight but I do not remember if the look back thing is part of the update. Any other useful tips or hidden features?

I've been contemplating the switch to save money. Let me know how it all works out and how much you are saving over Directv.

I was paying $90 for D-TV with the "choice" package and standard DVR plus satellite in the bed room. The contract was up and they did not want to play so I pulled the plug and built a HTC. The wife missed surfing the channels and I lost that fight before I even stood up so ..... Dish it is.
I'm paying $70 for them with the "120 plus" package. The hopper is pretty neat. I do not know what it will do that the D-TV Genie wont/will do. I'm still streaming or using torrents for most of the stuff I watch so I'm not all that vested in it.

Glad the change is working for you.
Several rural folks I know had to dump Dish and go with Direct TV. Erratic reception. I see you're in the DFW area, so you should be good to go. One of these days I may pursue ROKU, but have a feeling I'll lose a lot the wife likes.

You should check out CouchPotato and Sickbeard. They're pretty helpful for HTPC type setups.

This may or may not apply to you but on my Dish DVR, all you had to do to see previous programming was to press the "rewind" button to scroll backward. Mine does 30 minutes max but it's an older unit.
Another thing to keep in mind is that if your box has two tuners, the "buffer" is only recording on the last two channels that were viewed. Once you switch channels, the buffer starts over. Again, this is my older setup but the theory may apply here as well.
