Mercedes Motoring

Anybody know anything about that Mercedes Motoring Hippy dude out in LA with his restoration business? Seems to me that other than defacing all their cars with those awful pinstripes which I hate - they appear to do a wonderful job on these cars. I would think he's been around long enough now to have built up a reputation around the quality of his work or no? I don't mean the cosmetic aspects which are awesome but the mechanical/functional side. Does anybody on the forum know of any owners of his products and wether or not they hold up as well as one would think from the pictures? Not that I'm in the market for one. I'll probably never be but it would be nice to think that there is such a resource out there.

- Peter.

Two of my MBs bought used have had pinstripes on them. The painted-on ones are the ones you want. The pinstriped decals don't fare so well over time.

See him all the time in my neighborhood in his green coupe. Seinfeld has two of his cars, that must tell you enough.

I knew Seinfeld was a Porsche enthusiast. I didn't know he likes Mercedes as well. Which models does he have?

Isn't he in some sort of SL in one of those "Men in cars" episodes?

Interesting info. Seems like he may have a quality operation then.

Don't want any pinstripes on a Mercedes. They are hideous in my opinion.

That was a red 1970 280SL, which was on loan from a NYC-area vintage car dealership for that episode.

At one time he had an AMG E60 that was in the MB Classic Center in Irvine, CA.

I've seen several of the Men in Cars episodes on YouTube.

He drives his 6.3 in one of them, and I think a Pagoda SL in another.

No to pinstripes. My SEC has one that's molded into the metal.

Hm. I like how my car has pinstripe on top of that body line... I think it sets it off. Sadly mine was done with tape and is getting rough in places, especially on the fuel filler door.

That I did not know. He was with a comedian that I recognized, but couldn't remember the name. They were driving in the Beverly Hills area.

The one with the Pagoda SL was the episode in Manhattan with Alec Baldwin.

They're worth finding on YouTube and watching.
