Where has the time gone?

I feel so old these days, all wife & 'kids', in bed by 9pm on a Friday night.

I'm 44 and I think time goes very slow. Pay attention to life on a daily basis and you'll find it creeps along - don't pay attention and then you get that "Wow, I'm 50 and were did the time go?" Plan for tomorrow, but really pay notice to today.

PS - I feel like I'm in my 30s.

Well unfortunately the older you get the faster time seems to go. There is a logical reason for this in my mind as fewer things are new that absorb your attention. Being a slow learner It took me some time to figure that out years ago.

Anyways if an individual could figure out a way that slows true apparent time they would have a winner. At 44 you are approaching the age that apparent time will automatically seem to start flowing faster. I seriously doubt you can avoid it but hope I am wrong.

Our kids are long gone now. We still seem to be as busy as ever. Wife retires at 11.00 and myself somewhat later usually.

Just this morning the wife stated in an observation. Christmas is all year long now she had noticed. This for us is somewhat true and a radical differance from the past.

Feel any younger now?

Well you are certainly an antique to twenty year olds has to be a given. To my age group you are still a youngish rooster. The expression that age is all relavent is true.

If you actually feel oldish your life may not be dynamic enough. That can be both a blessing and a curse. Possibly both combined at the same time. Funny thing is I have to be old at seventy one but still just do not feel that way. To a a ninety year old I am youngish.

At my age everything is an adjustment I suppose. You learn that since you cannot really change what is you almost automatically adjust to it. I assume if you where not capable of doing that it could be depressive in nature. You are forced to look at the upside to retain your disposition and perhaps even your sanity. I suspect I act like I will be around forever. At the same time there is a reality that I am also well aware of. I just do not fixate on it.

As to where has the time gone? I just know it has gone and is not recoverable. Since I cannot change what is or has been. It just is what it is. I even have to question if it went fast or slow is relevant. Today is today.

I find myself feeling older at 50, I check the weather for the coming week to plan what I will be doing. This is something I never did before.

I always heard time flies when you're having fun, so I keep trying for the fun!

I remember as a kid the summer recess seemed to last forever. Now everything changes so fast I sometimes lose track of what season I am actually in. I must be having fun!

My grandma corrected me on this. She said there never were "the good old days". She said it was hard work and sqeezing nickels the whole time. They ran a Ford dealership, a cafeteria, and a grocery store. Hard working people who knew the value of a dollar. That dollar is worth about a squeezed nickel these days. You know you have felt the squeeze.

Well I do watch the devaluation of the dollar as far as purchasing goes. I suspect the erosion will always be with us. We are quite fortunate though as a family.By good coincidence we where able to keep our income growing.

At the same time I am not all that self centered and realize that the growing families that really are in need of the income may not have enough. In my viewpoint and the wifes you need the bucks more when your family is younger.

When we started out we did not have to look at 200k plus houses and the interest rates where fixed usually for the term of the mortgage. Inflations rapid onset killed off those morgages quite fast by todays standards. One of our homes actually doubled in value in two years partially enabled by buying it right as an additional bonus.

My parents went through some rough economic times and the recovery from them. I feel my now older current generation may have had it the easiest up till now at least. The complications that enabled this may be with us today though.

I at times wonder if what I am looking at in the current economy is not much better than economic slavery for many. I see nothing wrong with a level playing field and at the same time feel it is not one currently. Not only that but it is becoming less so as time moves along.

There are so many structured traps young people get involved in. The expression rip offs comes to mind although they are completely legal. Parents have to educate their offspring better than they are doing on average now to avoid them.

sometimes I just miss the old days: going to punk-rock shows with friends, getting roughed-up in the pit, shoving & being shoved, the sweat, noise & adrenaline.

I missed chances to see Fugazi live, which I regret now, but watching the video, I can catch the vibe, even with the lame crowd of kids there, not dancing, missing half the fun & message.
