That's still much better than the three engines that followed.

I have always let folks drive my cars for sale, but this thread does remind me of one test drive. During one test drive, I sat in the back seat (driver's girlfriend was up front) and mid way of the test drive, I asked the guy to pull over. This was in my wife's 1971 Porsche 911 Targa. It seemed he wanted the thrill of driving an old Porsche with his girlfriend and I did not appreciate how he was grinding the gears. I learned to charge $100 for a test drive in that car. The $100 would apply to the purchase price if your offer was accepted. Never had another issue with test drives in the Porsche.

The 6 Leaker had to be fixed and studded to be ok, the others, well... The latest Scorpion engine from Ford, we shall see.

i gotta say, i dont think i have ever encountered so many tire kickers and low ballers. ive probably had 10 people call me wanting to look at it only to never show, one guy wanted to set up a payment plan, one offered me 7k last week and another offered me 7k today. i told him blue book says its worth around 10k. he claims to have blue booked it himself and says im on the high side.

i blue booked it again and posted a screen shot of the results in the ads.

just amazing. im gonna keep it on the market until the ads expire and then ill wait until january to list it again.

I had a huge string of idiotic people who could not drive stick show up to look at an 86 diesel vw with manual steering.

One guy assured me he could drive stick, hopped in, and tried to put it in gear without depressing the clutch. I got pissed then because he ground the crap out of my none too strong 200 thousand mile gearbox, but he wasn't the first bonehead by far.

However, after about 3 weeks a young pretty english chick showed up to check out the car, fired around town without a hiccup, whipping the thing around curves with the manual steering with a big grin on her face, where guys 3 times her size were whining about it. She ended up buying the car.

Of course 3 days later she airlocked it.
I was really hoping an enhusiast would buy it and I could stop playing slap and tickle with this train of craigslist nimrods, but she really loved the car and after a slow start, got the hang of the cars foibles. I only had to come by 3 or 4 times to deal with airlocks till she learned how to A. Not do that, and B. Fix it herself in a few minutes

The only thing good about CL is it's free. I've found I can filter a lot of the riff raff by requiring an email with the prospective buyer's phone number, which I'll then call back if they sound legit and like somebody with actual cash. I use a dedicated email address for all CL communication.

One guy wanted to give me half cash and a personal check for the rest. I said "sure", but I keep the plate and title and I'll meet you at MVD when I've cashed the check. If the check is bum, I call the Sheriff to report a stolen vehicle. He decided he'd go get the rest of the cash, and never came back.

I wouldn't necessarily as long as it was understood we'd be swapping places at some point. If not I'd say **** you and walk.
