picked up an 03 volvo v70 today
I am good friends with the Sales manager at our local vw-volvo dealer and they have stock piled a load of junker s80's s60, s40 a 960 wagon and the 03 v70 I picked up today. he sells em to me pretty cheap so I got this one for $1000. Black with tan and 198k miles.
It is a one owner with clear carfax, TONS of service records including timing belt , water pump, tensioner, idler pulley etc at 128k and 6 mos ago $1000 spent on a new instrument cluster. The car runs and drives well but is completely trashed inside due to the owner runs a animal rescue shelter. OMG its full of hair and piss smell. The drivers fender had a basketball size dent in it as well. The problem with the car is when driving occasionally the dash lights up like a Christmas tree and the car actually hiccups badly. then almost instantaneously it runs normal again. the dealer advise it need a new CEM central electronics module. They charge $1275 to repair. Im gonna try this myself. Anyone had any experience with these> Is this a massive job? or just plug in and go? I am not even sure what good Volvo forums are out there any more. I want to use this as a delivery car for our turbo parts company. any info or thrashing welcome:o |
I'd rather have the 960, TYVM.

Try joining up the forum at The Volvo Resource: brickboard.com
and Swedespeed.com Good luck, I like the older Volvos. Had a 1991 740 "Volvito" for many years while in San Francisco. Much worse luck with "Camille" the brand new 2001 C70 HPT turbo coupe. Such a lemon that I had to have Volvo NA buy it back after a year under the California Lemon law. Good luck. |

Throttle Actuator
There was a serious issue with the Throttle Actuator (TBA) on the V70 that cost volvo beaucoup bucks since they at first refused to cover it as a warranty issue and then had to eat the cost ($1200 per unit including labor). the fault issues were exactly as described.
My Bro in Law had one of these and it was a true hanger queen. After he fixed it and finally (9 month wait) got paid back by Volvo NA, he dumped it...this one isn't a champagne/Tan and from VA is it...might be his POS. Volvo subbed all the computers/modules, etc out to MM of Italy and we know they don't understand quality in electronics..ever own an Italian coffeemaker or washer/dryer? |
