Remember the Toyotas with runaway acceleration?

Cars catch fire every day. I give this one the Official Twitchkitty Non Event of the Day Award.

Thanks for posting it, first I saw of Tesla fires. Wonder if the owner was behind on his payments?

Tesla lost billions as a result of these fires when their stock fell according to our local paper.

There are 150,000 automobile fires a year in the US. Three of them have been Teslas.

This fire was caused when the driver ran over a tow hitch that was in the road. It punched a hole in the battery which is in the floor.

It seems that having an accident in a Tesla could lead to it catching fire, so it is like other cars in this respect?

300 SEL 6.3 owners know that the fastest way to destroy your engine if not your entire car is to hit something lying in the road due to the design of the 6.3 oil pan.

Has Mercedes recalled all the 109.018's yet?

I'd have to agree it's a non event. Remember the Ford SUVs rolling over when their Bridgestone tires popped?

Chrysler have had to recall tens of thousands of Grand Cherokee jeeps because a few caught fire when rear ended. The solution was to fit tow bars to them.
There are way too many recalls happening these days. Some are justified, some are just to try & make cars idiot proof.
Time to start recalling bad drivers.

I read another report of the same incident and it appears the owner thinks that he was safer in a Telsa than a regular car and promptly put an order in for another Tesla to replace the burned up one.

I'd rather have a burning Tesla than a burning Ferrari. Silly, I know.

Amazing car, I wished I could afford one. With the Mercedes SLS the only new car I envy.

This is *EXACTLY* why I have factory Mercedes Benz skid plates on my E420 and 560SEC.

They really work.

To reiterate the top commentator:

"This Tesla fire story was brought to you by the major oil companies of America. Forget the electric car fad, BUY GASOLINE from us so we make more profit!!!! "
