Locked for no good reason

I simply wish to make note that Tom Walgamuth's thread about Obama stating that you can keep your policy if you want............was locked without the slightest bit of support based upon the TOU.

The most vociferous arguments on the thread came from one of the moderators.

Proof yet again about the arbitrary nature of the moderation here.

Is there something in the TOU that says it isn't or won't be? ;)

Brian, there'll be threads galore yet to come.

spdrun 11-23-2013 04:56 PM

At least they're not as c*unty as on some other boards, like miata.net, which banned politics entirely a few years ago.

kmaysob 11-23-2013 05:20 PM

A few of the mods on here are babies. What do you expect. The only forums I have ever been on that is as moderated as this is castboolits and the firingline. Castboolits banned me on day one because of my sn and the firing line likes to lock/delete posts when they feel the question has been answered and doesnt need to be posted on anymore. Total bs

Brian,

Unless you have no problem with a 30 day ban, I offer a friendly and respectful suggestion that you do not criticize the forum moderation here.

Best regards,
Larry

You believe that, because the TOU does not explicitly state that "moderation is not arbitrary" this provides the latitude to behave in an arbitrary fashion?

The very nature of the site allows the owner to behave any way he wants, as arbitrary as he wants, but, IMHO, he should be called on it whenever it occurs.

They have threatened to ban me permanently because of my outspoken nature. If that makes them happy, so be it.

There is a life outside of this place. I frequent it very little of late.

If there is only one person on this board that fully understands your statement and your feelings, it is me. I hope this doesn't label you as being in bad company.

Very best regards,
Larry

spdrun 11-23-2013 05:48 PM

If they're gonna ban everyone who mentions moderation, then ban me too. If the owners don't like the heat of an open-discussion forum, get out of the kitchen.

I'll be happy to host an unmodded open-discussion forum for y'all if this gets closed down. Not that I have any major complaints about moderation here vs other fora, but I think everyone has a right to gripe.

panZZer 11-23-2013 05:49 PM

One moderator here who never failed to show class has recently started conducting himself differently and I just mentioned it in a thread that magically dissappeared--hopefully he took what I said the RIGHT way.!

yes I did wake up to the pain medication alteration.

I go in for urgent oral surgery Monday.

jplinville 11-23-2013 06:08 PM

I have to laugh. This thread was started by a former moderator who loved to hand out infractions...when they weren't needed or deserved.

Kuan 11-23-2013 06:09 PM

It's a thankless job man. Especially on OD.

TwitchKitty 11-23-2013 06:22 PM

I would have locked it a long time ago when it got so far off topic that it became generic BS hysteria.

If I were moderator and got tired of reading a thread I would close it. Problem solved. Move on to bigger and better things.

In addition to being locked, someone added to it posthumously.

How does that work?

kerry 11-23-2013 06:25 PM

Why would a moderator have to read the thread? Surely not all threads are read by moderators.

t walgamuth 11-23-2013 06:25 PM

I asked for it to be locked.

The whole premise of the thread turned out to be marginally true and the thread turned into another bash back and forth thread with no direction.

Well, Obama again stated what was proven to be; untrue information, so, I guess I understand why you would have requested the thread closed/locked, since the title of the thread was anything but true, after scrutinizing how untrue it was after all.....

If you had any ability to read the TOU, you might grasp the fact that infractions were issued only for violations of that set of rules. Naturally, people like yourself would feel they didn't deserve any infractions but that is simply a result of failing to read and understand the rules by which the board operated.

You remind me of the individual who complains that they don't deserve a ticket for driving +15 over the limit because everybody else is doing it.

Threads take on a life of their own from the moment of inception.

It's a cowardly act to close it simply because you don't like the way it headed.

My apology to the moderators who I presumed closed it without cause.

I do not ascribe to closing of any thread unless the personal attacks get out of hand and your thread certainly didn't come close to that.

I experienced this too, JP.......but that was in the past.

I was pranked, poked/tormented, and castigated via PM and off-forum in numerous ways - all by the absolute power of unquestionable Moderation.

You knew a fact when you posted the thread. After some time, it became clear that the facts had changed slightly. Doesn't mean you have to close it. You simply stated that the facts presented by your Republican friends were incorrect............but, you shouldn't find that surprising.;)

You don't want to go and argue this point by point, do you?

You were given infractions solely for trolling. Nothing else. And, you damn well knew you were trolling when you posted the threads.

Now, you are free to troll anytime you wish because the rule against trolling is not enforced.

If you were "poked, tormented, and castigated" it was not by Chris or myself.

Yes, I do want to make it known, Brian. You're not a very nice person. You mistreat people at times for the sport of it.

You mistreated me off-forum via PMs AND on other websites. In short - you are A TROLL.

I stated once that you did nothing wrong to me - the reason I did so, was because you had the absolute power of a Moderator at the time......in short, I would have said you were the greatest person in the world on-forum to have you leave me alone, Brian....

You accused me personally of causing the 2008 stock market crash - via PM.

You pranked my membership here on PP by closing my account with excessive Infractions - all to TERRORIZE ME.

You stalked me on BenzWorld by trolling the sale ad of my '99 E300D - just to harrass me. I had to report you to BenzWorld to get your trolling post off my for sale ad.

AT TIMES, you're not a stable individual to deal with, Brian.

I have, I believe, about 400 posts on BenzWorld in my lifetime. You really think I could be bothered with you and your E300D sale? There was a person on that site who used a name similar to mine at times.

Again, let see if you can support the allegation.

This thread itself is SPECIFICALLY forbidden in the TOU...
automatic ban of the member starting a thread specifically to complain about moderation.

TOU violation, a consistent pattern of abusive behavior to members and moderators.

I have quoted in full Brian's original post on this thread and would simply say that it appears to me to be more a request for supporting evidence for the closing.

As stated it was my original thread which I asked to be closed that has precipitated all this so I feel somewhat responsible. I'd also have to say that BC's criticism of the mods in this case was pretty mild. It seems a shame for it to result in a ban expecially since it was due to a misunderstanding of what had happened (my requesting the thread closed).

I would respectfully request that you all reconsider your banning of BC.

TwitchKitty 11-24-2013 09:58 AM

I don't get it. If it is not for fun then why come here?

In my case, with me and the people I occasionally bump heads with, I think the mods have been more than fair and have taken a live and let live approach to the job.

Obviously you all have noticed Brian's increasing animosity for this place and the moderators since his dethroning. In recent months he really stepped up the attacks on us.

Repeated warnings, repeated warnings, then we threaten to ban. Walking on eggshells with him given his prior position, very reluctant to do any "behavior modification" as he puts it. He seems to like the idea of being banned and further pushes the limits. Opts for a suicide by cop rather than a graceful bow out.

This ridiculous thread was it for him. Tom asked for his thread to be closed. I closed it.

He got what he wanted. Martyrdom. You all can build him a virtual monument if you wish.:D I believe the ban is permanent.
