Yeah, but I'm using this for upholstery, not for clothing.

Wait, now I'm confused - I thought that you were looking for an economical source of Eightie's MB corded velour in order to fashion a suit...

One thing that thread shows though is just how fragile the fabric is compared to the MB tex. It looks cool, but you are gonna do a ton of work for something that will not last very well.

Just figured id be captain buzzkill here. For me, unless it was some kind of concours necessity, id keep the tex
Eh, if I get ten years out of it, I'll be happy . This is an appearance/comfort mod.

I use nothing but polyester double-knit for my suits.

Ha! Well, after thinking about it, I will admit that this is mostly an appearance mod with a comfort excuse . I ordered a free swatch of the material I pictured earlier, so we will see how that looks...

I had a Mercury with black leather seats, and talk about painful! I found bead seat "covers" at Walmart for $10 each and man were they cool! The air go between me and the seat an do more than protect, it also cool! Also great for long road trips. Yes, I know they are used in cabbies, as I was reminded by my Brother, but function over form! Just a thought...

Sorry, that sounds too easy.

I think I'll end up going with the fabric I pictured earlier on... it is a commercial-grade upholstery fabric with a level 5 lightfastness rating (the highest resistance to fading). I've ordered three other swatches that are also in the blue family, but I have a hunch we're going with this one. I'm not 100% sure it'll look good -- I have trouble convincing myself 100% on anything -- but my mother says it looks good, so I'll trust her . Her sense of colors was probably better than mine to begin with and has been refined by decades of sewing.

I also called SMS Auto Upholstery, and their immediate reaction was to offer to send me samples, so I said go ahead. However, after doing some online research, I am guessing their stuff will be too expensive for me. So, unless they send me something really awesome, and it's not over $20/yard, I'm probably going with this.

hows the breath-ability of the material?

On my van I had the seats re bolstered and recovered with some heavy duty waterproof commercial vinyl. Result is you start sweating on them even in winter, which is not a consideration I was thinking of when I had it done.

I need beaded seat covers for them.

Quite breathable. It looks like the stuff you'd see on conference-room chairs. If I can't get Euro cloth seats, I might at least do my own poor-man's version .
