Larry Calls Out "Screaming, Yelling Idots"

Larry King: Rush Limbaugh And Other Talk Radio Hosts Are 'Screaming, Yelling Idiots' (AUDIO)

Larry King had harsh words for the state of talk radio during a recent interview.

Speaking on the "WTF With Marc Maron" podcast, King didn't hold back.
"It became a soap box-- screaming, yelling idiots," King said. "A lot of what I hear is pop nonsense, political crazies."

The Marc Maron podcast WTF is an acquired taste, but once you get the hang of it, he does a good job of interviewing comics, chefs and the occasional celeb.

Anything to improve the ratings. The old saying says "No press is bad press- just spell my name right."

X2

"They prove that there are more horses posteriors in this world then there are horses."

I remember that Larry King once said "I never learned anything while I was talking" and that was the basis of his interview style. On the other hand, does Limbaugh ever interview anyone? I'm not a listener, so I presume that he does have a guest to interview from time to time.

Honorable mention to that Mark Levin character. Mean sounding fellow.

I don't listen to either Larry or Limbaugh- but I completely agree that you cannot learn while your mouth is moving. I tell that to my sons from time to time.

He does interview people now and then - I used to listen on my headset while at work. He often has telephone interviews with pols in his camp also.

Limbaugh never has invited guests. His forum is more of an infotainment mode. When a top Republican, including the President or VP but normally a Senator or House member, has something they want to push they contact his Producers and set-up a time for an 'interview'. Limbaugh feigns amazement at their wisdom, and then throws scripted questions at them to expand upon.

But his show serves a different purpose than King's ever did.

How so? They both want influence and more fame; same as most every entity.

He said that Limbaugh is a screaming idiot, and stated that Howard Stern is a good broadcaster. Wow every time I had ever seen H. S. he was interviewing a porn star. That was what had to be fifteen plus years ago, so maybe his show has done a one eighty, but I doubt it. I just think that King is worried that Limbaugh will pass him in the divorce count because as ratings and earnings go King is not in the same league.

There are a number of differences.

The purpose of one is to educate, the purpose of the other is to deceive.

One is selling entertainment, the other is selling a product.

One operates with no Federal regulations, the other is subject to FCC regulations.

Radio, as a profitable advertising medium, was dying until Stern reinvented the early morning drive time. If you think talk radio during the middle of the day or late at night makes money then you don't know anything about the radio industry.

The money made during the drive time in the morning and afternoon is where the profit is. The rest of the time the station is just trying to stay on the air. Talk radio is everywhere on the AM dial because it is cheap and because the station had to fill the dead air with something.

Stern has talent, Limbaugh has the same gift as a side show fortune teller: He tells listeners all their dreams will come true and makes them feel good about their thoughts.

Stern changes his act every few years, Limbaugh has not changed his act in over twenty years. This is because Stern is creative and Limbaugh knows his listeners do not like change or creativity.

I was once told that Stern swiped his act from Arthur Godfrey. This could be. If so it shows that Stern understands that if you are going to steal steal only from the best.

King interviews folks so that others will be "educated"? Huh? I don't buy your version of King's reasons for having a show. Very very few in show business got into it to "educate". But if you want to believe that...

It is just entertainment. It is all about money. Integrity in media is a thing of the past.

Oops, wrong Larry. Or lets say I thought the thread title reffered to another one.
