Where's Eric with-Holder and our DoJ ? And you're right -- someone who properly excercises their inherent right of self-defense will be labled and tagged as a bad guy and here comes Oprah.

Needs to be prosecuted as attempted murder when it is not prosecuted as murder. Even if doesn't kill outright it could later lead to a stoke or other cause of death.

Also justifies deadly force in defense.

Take someone with a history of strokes in the family and whack them in the head it is absolutely, positively, attempted murder.

A whack in the head is a time proven method for killing an animal. Even an animal larger than a human.

You see someone go unconsious and abandon them? That should be good for many years in jail even if you didn't hit them.

Seriously, no blame for the media and video games on this one, BS.

One of the disturbing things about this is it leads to wishing harm to young people, even if they are young thugs. Being put in this position should be resented.

Hell no, these are not innocent kids. These are roving death squads.

Many victims who are not killed will face a life of disability. And again, who pays for all of this?

If a person who is assaulted is killed, then the charge of a homicide would apply. It may not be murder (intent) but certainly manslaughter. For attempt to be brought, the prosecution would have to prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, that the accused intended to kill, or acted with such reckless disregard that a death would be more than likely to occur.

Worn out clichés alert. If someone pops a cap into some youth minding his own business, of course people are going to complain. But a gang of youths assaulting people at random? If they're stopped in the act, do you really think Oprah is going to make a stink about it?

And what the hell is Holder supposed to do about teenaged fools? It's a local law enforcement issue. If such punks were likely to be swayed by remarks from Holder, they wouldn't be doing it in the first place.

Sadly, the cliches are the other way around.

Hmmm ... really ? Eric Holder has made quite a few public statements about using or maybe using DoJ firepower against those he targets as being involved in "hate crimes", but yet those very crimes would fall into your category of "local law enforcement issues." I guess it just depends on what makes the list or not and who is keeping that list.

As for Oprah ... she makes a selective stink at best.

If I were not unconscious I would react violently to an attack of this nature. If unconsious and could remember the individual I might attempt look him up.

The legal system is of no use to stop this behaviour. At best probably raking a few leaves for a few hours. Counter violence is about the only way to stop a practice like this.a

The people who got caught doing this in Brooklyn are facing at least a year on Riker's Island, not a few hours of community service.

Videos Go Viral, Attacks Not So Much

The “Knockout King” or “Knockout Game” has been playing out for more than a decade on streets in New York, New Jersey, Michigan, Chicago, St. Louis, and now Washington D.C. in small numbers. But videos of the incidents have gone viral on the Internet, creating the illusion these things happen more often than they do.

And I would hope it wouldn't take a semi-conscious DA more than 2 secs to see that an assault on an elderly by a maniacal 17 yr. old would more than likely result in death.

That's nice. A drinking driver is charged with murder because another sober driver turns left in front of her and suicides on her front bumper. A person can intentionally punch you in the face and kill you and it is a game. Logic 101. If they shoot you it is the gun's fault.

'Cause all thugs have an inherent natural talent for divining the fine line between temporary unconciousness in a victim and permanent unconsiousness. They are probably born of long lines of anesthetists. Just like lawyers and judges can divine intent.

Why not embrace the game and use it for a lottery? If you survive the knockout you get a monthly check for life? Wait? ...

Agreed.

When someone has a bone to pick with the current administration, it is remarkable how every small ripple in the fabric of our society is laid at their feet for explanation, yet every attempt by said administration to curb activities the person agrees with are egregious over-reaches of authority.

Expecting the DOJ to get involved with this issue....
