Saw an interesting car at the junkyard today...
Here she is. Sitting in a corner of the yard I almost overlooked. Anyone have any idea what it is? If I had extra room, I think I would've bought this thing and swapped in a turboed OM616. Doesn't it just look like the perfect candidate for a run-around jalopy?

That is a lost cause there unless you need a five year project.;)

You would have to hate yourself to get that.
|
Swap out the body, exchange the frame, get a new drivetrain and engine then you'll be good to go.
|
I think it's an old Willys. Odd to see one in a junkyard, since they're collectible, but that one looks pretty done.
|
Yeah, looking at it a third time when I'm not out in 15 F, it does look kinda done.
Still cute, though! Ah well... that's New England for ya. You think it's a Willys? I thought they were longer... this bed's pretty runty. |
I'd say a vintage Willy's too. That home made cab extends back over the bed a bit, making it look tiny.
|
did it have a plow setup or tow setup?
might be a municipal/military airport vehicle. Ive seen some old willys pics with similar if not the same roof that are plane tow vehicles, or a plow vehicle for a runway, something like that. Did it have a light setup in the center of the roof? |
Ooh, it does look like a municipal/airport kind of thing. I'll look at it again when I'm back there... but those rear tires look like airport buggy tires.

L
2nd (or 3rd) for Willys. The 1/2 cab; OEM, aftermarket and homemade; were pretty common on Jeeps and Scouts, especially on plow trucks (easier to heat a smaller space, too :) ).

It says Willys on the tailgate-
CJ2, 2a, or CJ3, but hard to tell without the front end. The CJ3B had a taller hood to clear the OHV engine, the CJ3 had a one piece windshield vs the two piece of the earlier models. I can't tell if that cab incorporates the original windshield or if it's aftermarket. |
Can't believe I missed the Willys "emblem"! I think this yard has -- or had -- another one... a more traditional-looking Willys pickup that had been some sort of military vehicle. I'll have to see if it's still there.
|
I think its a CJ3B (judging from the height of the cowl, but I could be wrong) with a sears half cab. There are some pics of what it would look like more complete here: Sears Jeep Hardtops on The CJ3B Page
|
yup it is an old Willys.
they have a 1960 willys pick up in the jeep section. go to the MBZ section and walk back toward chevy trucks and its on your right. it has a 225 oddfire buick V6 swap... pretty neat. they also have a 197(5 rolls royce in there and a few oples... Rust kills everything up here!!! |
