House bill seeks to increase gas (and diesel) tax by 15 cents per gallon

With Congress facing a major shortfall in transportation funding next year, a House bill introduced Wednesday would raise the federal gasoline tax by 15 cents per gallon to close the gap.
Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) announced the proposal at a news conference, flanked by an array of labor, construction and business leaders. It would raise the federal tax on gas to 33.4 cents per gallon and on diesel to 42.8 cents.
The tax has not been increased since 1993, and the Highway Trust Fund, into which the revenue flows, has suffered because the tax has not kept pace with inflation. Plus, improvements in vehicle fuel economy have reduced consumption.

You get used to it, within a month you forget $3 gas ever existed.

I remember when gas first went above .50 cents per gallon and we had to get in line.

I am of the opinion that it is going to take $8/gallon gas to get ppl to conserve like need be.

Prices have come down here now, but when gas prices were above $4 there was significant less traffic. Worth the extra money.

How about we leave diesel alone and up the tax on petrol by a buck a gallon? It might stimulate more diesel options on this side of the pond and also get some of the S-boxes off the road.

We should all applaud and cheer for higher taxes. If the feds raised them high enough and continued to take care of us then we wouldn't need jobs at all!
Besides- if everyone was driving electric cars then a gas tax would generate no money. But that's not an issue- the ruling party is no stranger to taxing more somehow...

High tax states suck.

This country is awash in oil and gas right now, it should come down to around $3 a gallon. Right now were at $3.60ish.

Nah down in the Caymans its $6+ and their are still Suburbans and super charged Range Rovers everywhere.
