Texting guy shot at movie

Police: Texting argument in movie theater sparks fatal shooting - CNN.com

I'm not sure how I feel about this. Clearly the shooter's reaction was a bit much but ....

This story reinforces the fact that there are crazy people out there and you never know if they are toting a gun. Stay cool people!

It's a shame that the victims did not possess their own guns, and thereby have a chance to defend themselves.

He'd have had to expect to be shot at to have a chance to defend himself.

Hope they fry the grumpy old ex-cop.

what if the victim threw popcorn at the cop and taunted him after he came back manager-less? can throwing popcorn be considered assault?

it should be interesting how this ends up.

An inconsiderate a-hole, and a quick to lose self control old fool. Sad.

I have been in an altercation in a movie theater like this, I was the one pissed that some dute was endlessly talking while james bond was doing his thing.
After like 5 attempts to get him to shut up, I finally rose up and yelled right in his face "would you please shut the f**k up. Thank you".

The altercation came right at a lull, so I don't think anyone was comfortable for at least 10 minutes, though the guy did remain quiet. I think it was the volume with the polite phrasing.

Having said that, I understand the guys rage, but what in the hell was he thinking, he could have moved, or grabbed the cell phone and smashed it, or thrown a punch. He jumps right to shooting the guy dead

The guy wasn't texting during the movie, just during the commercials and previews beforehand. WGAF, why would anyone even bother arguing unless they were looking to pick a fight?

The ex-cop is either senile and violent, in which case he needs to be in a mental asylum, or a murderer, in which case he needs a seat in the electric chair.

(benhogan: Oh, and throwing popcorn isn't a cause for turning a movie theatre into the OK Corral last I checked.)

Throwing the box at someone could hurt them a bit. Not any justification to shoot someone but pain can trigger a reaction.

Unfortunate. Chaulk it up as an arrow for the gun control folks to shoot in their debate.

I have to say I am more than a little concerned with the folks who are saying the cops reaction a 'a bit extreme'. Shooting someone for talking in a theater is a whole lot more than a bit extreme. Can we at least agree on that?

In that case deadly force is still not justified. You still have a clear exit and your life is not in danger. Now of you were cornered with no way out or bodily harm was occurring. Then you may stand your ground. But in this case, not justified.
