Corbeau...has anyone tried them?
The interior in my e28 535is is starting to look pretty ratty; this despite being a relatively young car at 170k miles and 1988 model year. Sadly, the e28's build quality is not anywhere close to the w123, and the seats need to be replaced.
My options are to spend anywhere between $500-800 for a set of BMW period bucket seats (probably from a e30), or spend around $500 for a set of slightly used Corbeau seats and seat brackets. Does anyone have any experience with Corbeau (or other aftermarket seats) in a daily driver? |
I bought one for my 74 Saab about thirty some years ago. I seem to remember it was good. I bought a scratch and dent seat and whatever was wrong with it I was easily able to correct. I'd think for best resale it would be best to stick with BMW seats though.

I put a set of seats from a 2003 Chevy Monte Carlo into my E24 and was very happy with them. They more or less bolted right in and were far more comfortable than the stock BMW seats. I picked up the pair of seats for $150.

Fixed back or non-fixed?

I think e34 seats are a more or less direct swap into the e28. I even have a nice pair for sale...shipping would be a bit on the high side.
The e34 black seats seem to wear well, even here in hell. |
Thanks for all the feedback folks - I really appreciate it.
iwrock: they're reclining back seats. I don't think fixed would make sense for a daily driver. Thorsen: do you reckon these Monte Carlo seats will bolt into a 1988 e28? rs899: How much would shipping the e34 seats cost to 91214? If they're manual, I'm definitely interested. |
^^ I was really just kidding on selling you mine. I would, but I am sure you can find a set where you are - shipping is a killer (guessing $200). They are electric anyway , as I think most e34 seats are ( though I think I saw an early 525i last weekend in the junkyard with vinyl bone manual seats). I don't think wiring seats would be that challenging, or you could just adjust them where you want them with a battery and leave 'em there.

My $.02, wish the @s $ pad had a little more cushioning. Spent 8 hours in one (driving from Sacramento to San Diego, and while my back was OK, my rear wished there was a bit more padding!

Ok - thanks!
I might get these: Corbeau: Sport Seat Someone is selling them locally and they're hardly used. A bit costly, but probably might be worth the investment since they appear to be well made with comfort in mind. |
It's an old thread but I have the perfect interior for this car.
