Neither would create prosperity.
Agreed. (Damn!)

Perhaps you could clarify whether that meant "all".

I never even implied that the "perspective is widespread".

But yes some of them DO believe it as I have stated.

In fact, the County of Nevada, where I reside, is said to be the actual birthplace of the Tea Party movement.

There is no shortage of the caterwauling about tax and government in this area.
"All" is inclusive of everybody in the cohort.

I'm glad that perspective is out there (too bad it claims a major status in your county) and I am also glad it is a vanishingly small minority for the rest of us.

Stumbled across this link today. It attempts to capture the total tax burden on each quintile looking at all taxes imposed at all levels of government: federal income tax, payroll tax, state income tax, local taxes, etc.

^^^^ Interesting that state/local taxes are fairly constant while fed taxes are more progressive. I'm guessing that's mostly due to sales tax.

IMO, this would argue for exempting food and prescription drugs from local taxes (which generally affect us all more or less equally). Also, shift sales taxes to less than 1% but increase the sales tax rates for larger purchases since high ticket items are not usually what people with money are seeking.

Interesting chart but two things....one, it really does not break down the taxes paid so you can see how they figured it, and two I think I trust Warren Buffett more than this guy.')

I was rather hoping you would pull a number out of the air so that we could get a feeling for just what percentage of a mans labor, in your world view, the government is entitled to confiscate; in other words the most that you think is "fair."
Most of my bonds have 0% tax rate and when I rarely sell a stock it is around 15%. You are correct they do confiscate a man's labor. But if I had some serious money, maybe I could Romney a small business and pay 15% on the proceeds.

Increasing taxes in the "lower and middle classes" would be great. It would send a message ...

"you f**kers cheerfully supported the war in Iraq in 2003. Now time to pay for it. Yeah, that's right, enjoy!"
