Oklahoma religious monuments...
I thought there was a thread on this. Perhaps it was removed or I am mistaken.
The government here passed a law to place a copy of the Ten Commandments on the lawn of the Capitol building. This is being challenged in court, but in the meantime other religions have expressed a desire to place their own monuments on the same lawn. Yesterday a radio preacher went into a rant about how when the Oklahoma Constitution was written the word 'religion' was clearly meant to mean 'Christian' so no other monuments should be allowed. A reading of the Oklahoma Constitution, such as Article 1, sec. 2 and Article 2, sec 5 seems to disagree with the placing of religious or Christian monuments of any type, but I am not a lawyer and I do not feel like spending the money to have mine research it and issue an opinion. But what do you think? http://www.odl.state.ok.us/lawinfo/laws/oklahoma-constitution.pdf |
