Holden to your seats!

Seems like Holden will not be producing cars in Australia anymore...

Hope the Chinese or the Aussies themselves will buy out the infrastructure, keep making cars, and eat Generic Morons' lunch.

Looks like both GM and Ford are pulling out by 2017, leaving only Toyota.

No great loss. Pretty crappy cars frankly. Never understood why some people in the US thought it would be a good idea to use Holden platforms for US cars.

Because they're still better than the platform the WIMPalas are based on.

You even had the misfortune to own a Holden. I have as has a cousin of mine recently in Oz. I just don't see the point of them.

The G8 was a nice car as well as the GTO. Cheaply made but very fast for cheap!

GM is re aligning their production so this is not unexpected, also it seems all the other car companies in OZ are following.

So the last car made in Australia is going to be a Toyota? How fitting.

I have to wonder if this will be reconsidered in a year or two. Right now, the AU$ is unusually strong, but it's already fallen about 20% vs the US$ in the past year. Used to be up above one US$ (1.08-1.10) for a while, now it's closer to 90 US cents.

Just guessing here, but it appears that as the Holden has been exported to so many countries and received acceptance in those markets it might be cheaper to build them in the countries where they are actually selling.

Some counties, like the Republic of South Africa, have local content laws so many auto makers set-up a shop there to build cars for the entire area. If Holden's are being built there now then it might be cheaper to just shift production there.

The large Holden is sold in China in an extended wheelbase as a Buick, and sales there are quite good. Perhaps production is being shifted to China?
