It's so cold in the people's republic of the bay area that a couple of evenings ago I suddenly freaked cuz when my van had a coolant leak about a year ago that took a while to find, I filled the reservoir thingy with water several times, lost track how many. No idea how good my coolant is. I had half a gallon of anti-freeze so I drained the radiator and filled it with that and some of the drained mix, up to about 3/4ths full radiator, got it warm enough to mix the brew and breathed a sigh of relief.

You northerners will probably scoff but we've been down in the mid 20s at night for several days in a row - uncommon for these parts.

I am a tripod.... when I go pee outside at -41C....gotta break off the kickstand to zip up....more like shrink dink and raisin bag.... Help! I can't find my weiner...it got lost in the grass.

Interesting...I found a temp. converter and -41C is equal to -41.8F.

Pfft, mid 20's ....25F is equal to about -3.889 Degrees Celsius. I could be in my gitch outside in that temp. Not even cold....I guess you guys are'nt used to that though? Amazing how the human body adjusts and becomes aclimatized. Imagine I would have a hard time in a California summer, on the flip side...
I am just exagerating, I'd be cold in my gitch too....but not as cold as you.

-40F is the same as -40C... which is the joy I experienced in Oulu, Finland.

It is -41C WITH the windchill factor, here. I wonder if you had experienced -41C without the windchill. It could have been closer to -60C with windchill factored in. Is'nt that place you been to in Finland close to the North Pole?

I spent some years up in Yellowknife, N.W.T., Way further North than I am now. I went out to start my uncles brand new Chevy Truck one morning.

I started it and for some reason was looking at the oil pressure guage when it started....The oil pressure guage would'nt move off of 0. I waited as long as I could for it to come up. It never did move off 0, before I could'nt take it any more and shut it off. Uncle had the truck towed to the dealership to unthaw.

It was our first winter up there, so the dealer told us dummies that everyone knows you are suppossed to put 0w oil in for winter to avoid this. I think I was 17 or 18 so I did'nt know about oil. Truck was fine after warming up and correct oil changed out. It was -65C that day. Dangerously cold temps.

Would the redneck solution to moving the truck be to light a small fire under the oilpan and wait for it to warm the oil up enough to deliver pressure?

Been mid 20s here the last week!

We usually get one or two nights of this a year, not a whole week! O_O

Definitely a change, I've noticed people have really started to adjust their work schedules by ~30 minutes, coming in later than usual. Me thinks it's to allow das auto to warm up a bit.

Nope.

With that said, my father told me stories growing up of the German military lighting fires under the oil pans of their heavy machinery at night to keep the oil warm.
