In the early to late fifties, my Dad had a 38 Chevy standard business coupe for a work car. It too had a CAVERNOUS trunk. I remember one time we took it for the trip to see my grandmother because my bicycle very easily fit into the trunk. It was probably extremely close in dimensions and proportions to the Plymouth in the picture.
