Removing a LONG scratch?
Does anyone know an effective way of removing a pretty damn long scratch? It's not deep but some drunk a**h*** keyed 10 or so cars parked on the street last night I guess.
one of them was my car... NO!!! I don't believe it... Good thing that it was a long horizontal scratch near the pinstriping so it's not so obvious. A Civic had its body keyed vertically (repeatedly i guess) like a tiger with a 2 meter wide paw scratched it.... He didn't spare anyone.. not even a beat up rusty old VW Rabbit Diesel!?@# and an almost destroyed Crown Vic LTD??? no offence to Rabbit owners.. those are cool cars... Is there a good way of removing it? Should I just use a dremel, buy some scratch 'remover' and buff it off? What a great sight early in the morning.. i'm never parking there again on Fri. nights. sorry had to vent and need some suggestions.. Have a good day, When you're drunk try not to vandalize anything.. I'd rather have them take my star at least I can put another one in...

scratched paint
Holson,
Sorry for your car. There is a way to fix it. Goes like this. 1. Get a spraycan of lacquer that matches your car. If you don't have one contact, www.themotorcompany.com (610-588-7355) Give them the color code from the front crossmember in front of the radiator. Tell them that you want a lacquer as they call their lacquer something else. When you get it, you need to do this. Go to your local auto paint store and get the follwoing. 1. A grease and silicone remover. 2. Several finer and finer grades of wet and dry sandpaper, starting with 600 and going up to 1500. 3. Get a liquid swirl remover polish. Wipe down the scratch area with the degreaser. using a very fine brush, spray some of the paint into a small container and paint it with the brush into the scratch. Don't worry if you get a little on the surrounding paint. Keep adding brushed paint until the surface of the paint in the scratch is higher than the surrounding paint. Once it's higher use the wet 600 to very lightly sand the higher paint down. Try not to hit the surrounding paint any more than necessary. Work through the finer papers until you bring the scratch area down to the original paint with the wet 1500. Then use a very soft cloth, such as terry cloth to polish out the tiny scratches left by the 1500 with the swirl remover liquid. Take your time, it works and if you make a mistake just start over. Lacquer can make anyone look like a pro. When you're finished, only you will know it ever happened. Let me know how it works out, I love coupes. Ben |

Thanks for the suggestion!
It makes sense, i mean really.. I never thought about it. I have some paint left over from the paint job that the shop did (rust removing). It's Anthrazit Grau or something like that. They body shop did an excellent job. I bent over, used a magnifying glass, etc etc and couldn't find the spot painted area... (except for one minor area) Since I do not really need to spray it I think I'll just use that small bottle of paint and do it on a really sunny day (or is it a bad idea?) I think while I'm at it I'm gonna touch up a few spots that have no paint at all (rock chips...gotta hate those).

Paint
Holson,
Glad you got my message. Check out the paint that you have some of these paints are highly toxic. At the very least wear gloves so it won't soak in through your skin. These other paints don't work like lacquer either. Good luck!! Ben |
