Growing Disbelief in Evolution

Republicans' belief in evolution plummets, poll reveals - CBS News

Forty-eight percent say they believe “humans and other living things have existed in their present form since the beginning of time,” up from 39 percent in 2009.

Is anyone surprised?

I just finished reading an article about the work of Georges Cuvier, French scholar who developed the concept of "extinction" as applying to a "world previous to ours, destroyed by some kind of catastrophe." It made me somewhat curious as to how other theories handle the concept of extinction.

The 19th century was awash in theories concerning origin of species and extinction.

The most reasonable explanation that has stood the test of observation and experimentation is Darwin's with some modifications to account for genetics and so forth.

Doesn't mean it's the only possible explanation. Merely the best thus far.

Cuvier presented the theory, Darwin merely confirmed a mechanism for the theory. Darwin seems to have stated that extinction was the natural process of evolution, however we now know that natural catastrophes have caused extinction as well. At one time Darwin was deemed to have won that argument, but Cuvier has since been vindicated.

In Brian Carlton's world EVERYONE except him is a moron, db, or an idiot. (Or all three at once).

He was never too happy about that.

27% of Democrats and 28% of independents say the same thing. That's what surprises me.

It really doesn't matter if we were made by a supreme being, evolved from apes or are the product of ancient astronauts.
prove one mathematically to me, and you've got my attention, maybe. Still means nothing.
