What is going on in OD these days?

Where did the Tyler resignation thread go?

I don't understand what is going on here.

First Joe jumps into the thread and locks it. Then his decision is changed and he edits his post, telling us to "chill". Huh? Nothing there was against TOU. What was the issue?

Then the thread continues on... eventually the topic comes to BC, and the lack of his presence is lamented, especially in the technical forums. Some question the immediate lifetime ban; other comments are made, but the discussion as a whole could not, I believe, be classified as a personal attack on or harassment of a moderator. Furthermore, the thread's purpose was definitely not to criticize a moderators decision and even many of the comments there were questioning, not condemning, the decision.

Then the thread is deleted. What?

I saw nothing there specifically against the TOU, and certainly think that if there were any objectionable posts, they would have had to have been in the extreme minority of the 180+ posts in the thread and as such could have been deleted by themselves.

I am starting this because I am genuinely confused about what led to the moderating decisions on this matter and sense that others as well as me would welcome an explanation. I do not understand how the whole thread -- or even a large minority of it -- was in violation of the TOU and so cannot comprehend why it was deleted.

I wonder too.;)

Dude, get out. Have a drink and get yourself some! :)

I think your thread here is at odds with the TOU.

I do not believe it is. If you are thinking of #14, I am not criticizing a moderator's decision; rather, I am asking for the reasoning behind it.

Not true....

If you were so concerned with how the forum was being run, you'd have contacted the management or moderators directly.

This thread is criticizing the TOU et al, joooosepi.

Yes Luna, you summarized it well. I have the same questions but I don't expect an explanation. The owner of the site sells parts, lots of parts. That means that this forum is about the last thing on their mind. They're busy selling parts.

I'm sure they don't want to offend any potential customers, and they don't have time to field a bunch of complaints about it.

If you have read some of the things Tyler wrote, then you may have gotten the idea that the owners are keeping the forums they own at arms length. They own others so they probably have a good idea how to extract business from them with minimal effort. The forums to them are a sales tool, not a way of life.

Bill and Donnie started the forum and it was their baby. They paid LOTS of attention to it and it was a huge part of their business strategy. The current owners have no such need to stay on top of the forum on an hour to hour basis. I fully expect that it is serving them well for their purposes. Why should they worry about it, especially the OD portion of it.

You should follow this advice carefully, and often.

I thought about that, but ended up reasoning that since there were enough people who were puzzled about the move, the reasoning should be posted publicly so that we can avoid those sorts of violations in the future.

I think what we see is the voice of youth.
In a few years he will understand.

Your best bet is working behind the scenes, bud. Public questioning and badgering the mods isn't helpful.

Anything else, (this thread for instance.....) circumvents and undermines the authority of the designated volunteer moderators.

If you want answers to your concerns/Qs, contact moderators and ownership/management, via PM.

The Swede 12-31-2013 10:54 PM

I mean, c'mon.
