Unhappy RIP Phil Everly

Phil Everly of the Everly Brothers died yesterday at 74. I grew up listening to them in the late 50s & 60s. Their harmony was OUTSTANDING.
They split up in the early 70's, but got back together in 1983 in London. Still had the same great harmony 25 years later.
Here's an hour of pleasure!

Didn't McCartney include "Phil & Don" in the song Let Em In?

My uncle played with/for the the EB for quite some time. My father was the better guitar player for a bit, but the traveling musician life was not his wish. That's my uncle on the right, I don't look like him, but then again, I'm adopted.

I think their harmony was so good because they were brothers.

I remember hearing them in the fifties and due to their hair styles, the old folks didn't accept them, then I remember very well their appearance on the Tennessee Erny Ford Show. The show was past my bed time, but my parents let me stay up and watch for this special occasion. At the end of the show TEF made a little speech about how he had worked with the kids all week and was very impressed with their character. He was sort of lecturing the people that had been unfair to them. After that their career exploded.

IMHO there are a few songs that just can't be effectively sung by anyone else except them. Dream, comes to mind.

A few years ago, my wife drug me to a Paul Simon concert. The warm up act was a pair of sisters. They sang Dream and I think they were the only artists I've ever heard besides the brothers that really did the song justice.

RIP Phil Everly.

I am surprised he was only 74. I woulda figured late 80s at least. Is Don still among the living?
