Hopefully the new Ranger and rumored Dakota will also get small diesels! Something like this would be perfect for someone like me!

With GM a diesel is always just a few years away.

I'm shocked they are offering a stick, I bet they will sell 5 of them.

Shocked, but glad that they're not only marketing to fatties and wimps.

Is it just the picture, or does that thing look pretty huge (wide and tall)? Wonder if you can disable the OnStar spyware (icepick in the antenna cable, perhaps, if something else).

Dangit, I just finished my small diesel. Going to be slightly miffed if they decide to unroll a small diesel for the USA the same year.

Oh well, mine is paid for.

I'll believe it when I see them on dealer lots.

You got that right!

Hopefully they realize they need to hit a lower price point with the down sized trucks than the full size. I ended up with two Colorados only because I needed them quick and they were optioned the way I wanted them. They were negligibly cheaper than the Silverado at the time. Otherwise there was little reason to go with a smaller truck with less passenger and cargo room and only slightly better mileage. For these two reps that wasn't an issue. For many buyers it would be and probably not insignificant as to why the small domestic truck withered away.

Small trucks are worth less because they can do less work, but the problem is they cost just as much to make as a full size truck.

If I can't put a 4x8 sheet of plywood in the bed the truck is useless to me.

That is very true for people who actually use a truck to do truck things. For some reason, it's very popular in this country for people to buy trucks and then use them as cars. I don't understand it, but I see it all the time.

Its FUGLY, why can't manufacturers make trucks that look like trucks and not anime characters? I applaud a diesel and a stick, but I bet they won't sell many. I hope small diesels take hold here...

I can only afford 1 car right now, and can only park 1 car right now. Every now & then I need to move projects around, the occasional pallet, motorcycle/engine/etc. Having a small truck makes more sense than a car + renting a trailer(can't store a trailer where I live), renting a truck when I need it, or paying for delivery. 20/25mpg isn't bad either.

But yeah, there are people that prefer a big truck's ride, and if maintenance/ fuel costs don't matter then why not?

For a construction contractor, I can see where a small p'up would be useless. If it can't fit a sheet of ply or sheetrock, there's not much point.

For us, we just use them as rep vehicles. All I need them to do is carry 500-600 lbs. of seed/fertilizer or 12+ cases of liquid product (no, not beer ) or some combination thereof. In the case of the liquids and fert it's preferable to have them in a separate, isolated compartment from the driver. Two of them need full size and ton capacity since they cover some areas that are a logistical nightmare for our bigger trucks and are routinely loaded to capacity but the rest could get away with smaller trucks.

Sounds perfect... For a Duramax!

I wish they would put the 2.8 D max or maybe a slightly larger one into the 1/2 ton, and than not only offer it in the $40k+ crew cab short bed models...like Dodge.
