Men, Your Shave is Being Disrupted

Harry's Buys A Blade Factory
EISFELD, Germany – For more than 93 years, the Feintechnik factory in this small German town an hour north of Nuremberg has produced billions of razors, its machinery transforming steel by the ton into the mathematically precise blades that end up in low-end safety blades and the hardest-to-manufacture five-blade razors.

But as of Monday, the sprawling factory now belongs to Harry’s, an Internet shaving start-up that was not even open for business 10 months ago.

Harry's looks like an interesting company. I'm always stunned at the price of those multi-blades in the drug store. Too bad the new factory doesn't make double edged blades. I'd love to give theirs a try.

I miss shaving sometimes. I found the straight blade shave at the barber shop especially relaxing.

I suppose I could still have them do it for the experience, although I'd probably get some weird looks after the request.

I would imagine that you get weird looks just because of the way you look. say what?

Every multi-blade cartridge type razor that I've used has clogged with hair and felt like I was shaving with sandpaper. You can buy double-edged razor blades for under 25-50 cents a blade if you buy in bulk, and get a better shave with them (and some soap). My razor is probably 20 years old, if not older.

I have a drawer full of OLD Gillettes. My usual shaver is a 1953 twist to open tech after giving my father's 40's vintage 3 piece to my son. The old Gillettes are the MBZs of shavers, built to last forever. I order blades by the hundred on AMZN, last order was around 18 bucks for a hundred Sharps. The multi-bladed shave heads aren't recyclable and I really dislike throwing away plastic.

The old double edged safety razor blade equipment and manufacture by the big names went to india. Available on the internet.

Ebay to be specific is where you can find them. My guess is the large names may not have introduced the disposables over there yet.

I found on the occasions that I neglercted to shave for a day or two the disposables where not cutting it. Just about time for my to order another batch.

Also I have a razor plane that demands them. I did not try hard but seem to be available locally anymore. Seem to give a fair amount of shaves and do not forget they have two cutting edges. Quality of the indian blades seems fine so far as well. Gillette blades about a dime apiece delivered made in India. You probably can buy unknown brands cheaper but the gilletts I have ordered before where fine.

Post Harry's Razors T.T.T.

No one bothered to answer the origin al post, I bought some Harry's razors & blades and they seem to work well .

Long ago (mid 1960's Gillette released the plastic two bladed " ! Good news !" razors, I have tough facial hairs and tried and liked these very much although over the decades the quality has occasionally been spotty sharpness wise .

Getting an old fashioned single edge barber shop shave is really nice, every man should try it at least once .

I'd like to hear if anyone else here has thoughts about Harry's .

As far as being wasteful, I clean and tap out my razor every time I shave (almost every day) before setting on edge so the water residue drains off, this way I find any razor blade lasts far longer .

I use Harrys and am very pleased. They never clog. I used to tap, bang and use an old toothbrush to clean the hairs out but not now. My beard is tough.

Post How They Make S.S. Razor Blades

Thanx for the video link ! .

I remember using the old quench blued typ .

I get far more than 6 shaves out of each razor in spite of my tough beard that plays hob with straight edge razors .
