Pete Seeger
Rest in peace, weary pilgrim. Some kinda guy. I wasn't always down with his every political leaning, but often was. He popularized a song that's always been a hit for me, Garbage:

I worked with Pete on several films, Wasn't That a Time, We Shall Overcome and Hard Travlin'. I found hiom to be a bit naive at times but deep inside he was true to his ideal.
Equality and Justice. |

I always enjoyed his music and his politics at least as portrayed in his music.

Seeger was booked to appear at the Woody Guthrie Festival in Tulsa on Feb. 22 of this year. He was going to receive an award and also perform.
How many artists are still selling tickets at the age of 94? I can't think of anyone else who could do this outside of Tony Bennet or Paul McCartney. (Woody Guthrie was born in Okemah, which is south of Tulsa, which is why they have a festival for him every year.) |
