V-Twins...

Are amazing.

Had the pleasure of piloting a Honda V-Twin SuperBike this past weekend, and well... I'm in love.

Thinking I may wind up with something powered by a V-twin. I know they aren't the most powerful in terms of HP, but man-oh-man, you can't put a price on the sound and torque!

Oh yeah!

That off idle torque is awesome. Doesn't quite have the same top end that the CBR1000RR I rode, but not a slouch either. The power on the V-twin is fairly tame, and very easy to control.

With that said, a friend has an SV1000 I've been wanting to take a ride on. From what I gather, it has the same engine as that V-Strom, so it will be interesting to see how the power feels.

How was it for vibration? I've been riding parallel twins for years. The 250 I had was fine, but the 650 has quite a bit of vibration below about 4000 rpm. I've been thinking of getting something with another cylinder or two when I get my next bike.

I have an early Japanese Vtwin cruiser, an 82 Yamaha Virago 750. Aside from the notorious starter issues, it's not bad. Surprisingly smooth, good torque, and the shaft drive makes for much less maintenance although it is a lot more work to get into the rear brake. Of course the newer ones have disks and more retro styling, but still smooth and gutsy although a bit less refined in the handling department. Much different power than a four cylinder, a lot more torque and less top end.

in the 90's, a riding buddy had a Suzi TL-1000R...(1L v-twin) - yosh pipes....that sound was so amazing you could feel the exhaust5 or 10 ft behind the bike.
I am not a guy that likes loud pipes or loves RR's, but that sound...I could own one of those (y'know, as a 2nd bike

I have a Ducati 900 SS in the shed. Its a true V twin.
Not one of the Jap clones.
The sound out of the conti megaphones is thunder.
Can lean it well over when cornering.
I dont ride it much these days.
probably will be a resto project one day.

This is what you gotta watch. Most V twins drag frame tubes around turns, sucks.

I passed on a 1970s Ducati a few years back, stupidly. Still think about that bike sometimes.
