A difficult move made much more difficult or like doing it the hard way

Colorado CEO commits suicide with a nail gun as company comes under investigation - NY Daily News

Richard was my daughter's employer until about 5 months ago. She was the manager of one of the Denver Offices. They were notified at that time that Richard had taken and used all the funds in the employees retirement savings accounts. My daughter is out $60,000 plus. She left his employment that same day and is doing well.

I'm somewhat impressed at his determination. Maybe he wanted to do it slowly and painfully as a way to recover some lost honor, like a disgraced samurai. Maybe he couldn't get a hold of a firearm. Or maybe he was just an idiot.

I read that in the local paper a few days ago. Bizarre way to end his life. Pretty easy to buy a gun around here.

What are the legal requirements for handling company retirement plans? I'm surprised he could get easy access to it.

Well we are also, Kerry. Just hard to understand. I talked to my attorney and hunting buddy about it this morning and it is his thinking that there almost has to be some equity in that mess somewhere and those IRA's will be covered first. We really do hope so, she is a single Mom, a good paralegal, very hard and efficient worker, has three really good kids, both boys are in the Air Force Reserve and has two granddaughters.

In the 80's I worked for a real estate developer in Denver named Talley who was a very shady character. I've been unable to determine if there is any connection between the two Talleys, but it wouldn't surprise me since Richard was in the real estate title business.

"He had shot himself seven or eight times in the head and chest with a nail gun."

You would think there would be a murder investigation ...

I could see it being physically possible to self-inflict that. A framing nailgun, if that's what it was, shoots a big nail but it's not going to blow the back of your skull off the way the gun barrel in the mouth method would. Such wounds would hurt like hell and do damage but not inflict immediate death or immobility. Not that I know for certain . . .

I'm kinda suspecting murder. It takes a lot of stones to keep shooting yourself with a nail gun for 7 or 8 times. I mean, why not go for a rope or something? If he was that far gone, I would doubt he would repent it by torturing himself. OTOH, some disgruntled client who got ripped off, that is another story.

Good point. Should be looking for a framer.

Have to be careful now since he has started the job already and they might want more to remove the nails and put them in the right place. Should have gotten professional help first before attempting a poor job.

Besides the fact that there are more painless ways to off oneself, this is downright sloppy. One nail should be enough if done right. I mean, you can sit in the bathtub with warm water and slit your wrists. That way, they only have to drain the water and no bloody mess. Now people have to clean up the mess AGAIN. How inconsiderate. He could have ponied up a few bucks for "The Final Exit" and learned how to do it right. Surely there is a "Suicide for Dummies" book he can buy;.

Maybe the DA or the DA's close family were ripped off by him, and they consider it good riddance. Cheaper than keeping him (and his killer, if any) in prison to be sure.
