Why?

They came to the party late. They set a goal - to get to the moon - in what was, compared to the US timeline to achieve the same goal - insanely short.

They got to the moon. They collected some data. Faster and cheaper than their predecessors.

If you think that PR silliness is going to keep them from leap-frogging US achievements, you are seriously naive.

Just curious, but could you post some info on what you find so impressive?

From what I've read, the Chinese put their first man in space in 2003, then put a rover on the moon 10 years later in 2013. For comparison, the U.S. put it's first man in space in 1961 (Alan Shepard), and then landed men on the moon 8 years later (July 20, 1969).
