National Corvette Museum, Yikes!

Museum spokeswoman Katie Frassinelli said six of the cars were owned by the museum and two — a 1993 ZR-1 Spyder and a 2009 ZR1 Blue Devil — were on loan from General Motors.

So do they plan to fish the cars out, or just dump more fill into the hole and tamp it down with a shovel when they're done?

Dayum! Imagine being the first one through the door in the morning, sipping your coffee!

Cars fall into sinkhole at National Corvette Museum

It is home to more than 30 unique Corvettes, including prototypes and a 1983 model -- the only one in existence.

I just drove by there yesterday!

That looks like it'll be tough to repair. I don't know if they might have to raze the building and start over.

Yikes!

Museum must have been a design/build project by GM, planned obsolescence

Same thing happened at a Porsche dealer in Lake City FL in 1981. As I recall the damage was 75 new/used Porsches...

I thought 75 p cars sounded like a lot.

Wow, though that is one huge sinkhole! I wonder how long til it collapses again?

Can you imagine having your morning coffee at your kitchen table, and next second you're 100 feet underground?

Inadequate soils investigation. It always seems to be what gets cut out of the budget. A local engineering geologist could have told them they were in a karst region, and what precautions need to be taken. No one can predict these things, but there are engineering solutions.
( They also left off the soil borings and report when they built that famous tower in Pisa)
